ITINERARY

Friday 17 Sept: 36 at Royal Porthcawl 5 times (18 players) starting at 8:30am & 5 times (20 players) starting at 1:30pm. Lunch is included between rounds and jacket & tie is not required.
Dinner is booked for 22 at 7:45; £30 each for a fixed menu:
Starter: Pan Seared Scallops with Mixed Baby Leaf Lettuce & Citrus Vinaigrette (smoked salmon is an alternative - let me know)
Main Course: Beef Wellington with sautee potatoes, carrots, fine beans & red wine sauce
Dessert: Triple Chocolate Chantilly Mousse
Cheese: Chef’s Welsh Cheeseboard Selection with Grapes & Celery
Coffee & Petit Feurs
JACKET & TIE REQUIRED FOR DINNER!
Following dinner Ross McMurray will give a presentation on the creation of a Ryder Cup venue followed by a Q&A session.

The dormie house is booked for the 16th. Breakfast is served in the clubhouse from 8am unless prior arrangements are made. Craig, Philip, Robin, Andy L, E Smith & Jason have the singles. You lot can figure out the three twin partners: J Boon, C Gamble, J Mayhugh, M Pearce, B Stephens & M Whitaker.

The entire dormy house became available for Friday, 17 September. Folks who have booked rooms must remember that excpet for ME, this night will not be paid for in advance. So far, those who ahve booked include A Levett, Doc, M Pearce, Conm Whitty and E Smith.

****Optional Game****Saturday 18 Sept: 18 at Clyne GC 4 times for 14 players (only 12 have taken their sposts) booked at 8:30am off the 10th tee. £70 deposit paid. Players will be expected to pay £25 each outstanding. The following Pests intend to play: C Disher, Sweet Lou Duran, John Tucky Mayhugh, J Topp, Whitty Whitaker, J Boon, C Gamble, The African Animal Gawith, A Levett, Spangles Muldoon, M Pearce, W Peyronnin & B Stephens.

Saturday 18 Sept: 18 at Pennard; 5 times (20 players) starting at 1:54pm. It probably makes sense to send off the non-Clyners first.

Dinner is booked for 8:00pm at Mumbai in Mumbles.

Sunday 19 Sept: 36 at Pennard; 5 times (18 players) starting at 8:20am & 4 times (16 players) at 2:00pm. Sunday Lunch is available between games, but I shall need to know numbers by Friday AM.

Additions to Buda: Tony Muldoon is organizing a 20 September shindig at Southerndown and James Boon is organizing Burnham & Berrow on the 16th. Mike Whitaker is organizing a trip through the West Country and is willing to allow eager Pests to tag along. Please see links below.

Still sounds good to me. You are right in that its going to be tricky getting commitment and deposits, but assuming a few others respond to this thread saying its all okay, then I'd be happy to send a cheque over soon.

I'd also be interested in Clyne though I'd not heard of it before so I looked them up...

When my wife and I went to Pennard in July 2005, we stayed at quite a nice hotel in downtown Swansea. Perhaps Sean will remember the name. It was fairly large but very well appointed, and had a car park and a decent dining room and bar.

What price is the dormy house? If it's cheap enough I'll be up for it Thursday night.

If there’s a few up for it then, I'm in for Clyne.

I would also like to make the most of the trip to Wales and will make enquiries for 36 holes at either Pyle & Kenfig or Southerndown on the Monday as soon as 3 more speak up. I have no preference as to which and playing both on the same day is possible - if needlessly expensive. As its day 4 can anyone say which is the easier walk?

James the accommodation varies. Of the 3 I've attended. We all stayed at the local branch of Fawlty Towers at Hoylake and a modern hotel based inside the grandstand at Headingly. For Deal we were in various locations but all quite close to the clubhouse and bar. Watch this space and the optioins will become clearer.

As a low key old guy ( some call that "cheap" ) I preferred Mumbles to Swansea. But, I ended up staying in neither because I booked too late the last time.

What's the drive time from Porthcawl to Pennard?

Given the 36 holes on Friday at Porthcawl and the late start the next day at Pennard, I'm inclined to spend Thursday and Friday night in Porthcawl and that leaves the Dormy house at Porthcawl out. Maybe there are some good B&B's in Porthcawl.

GCA - If anyone is interested in watching the local rugby game either on Friday or Sat night - I will have to wait for the 2010/11 fixtures next summer and will keep you all informed.

Tony - P+K is flattish and easy to walk on - I heard Southerndown is more hilly and harder walk - I dont mind either.

I googled "Porthcawl B&B" and there are many in town, close to the Royal Porthcawl coiurse, with Pyle & Kenfig right there too. The B&B's looked reasonable enough, with singles 30-40 quid.

We can deal with hotels at a later date. That said, our options are basically Swansea or Mumbles. Neither place is really nice imo, but usually golfer types prefer Mumbles, but it tends to be more b&bish or small hotel (inn) with an exception or two

Its where I stay if I head down for a night. I like Port Eynon because there is nothing much there but a beach and a few pubs.

I would suggest holding off hotels until we know numbers because it is best to be together or at least near each other.

I can't commit at the moment but would hope to come.

Porthcawl is a decent place to stay and full of B&Bs and small hotels. I stayed at the Dormy House and it was was good value and clean.

The Mumbles is a nice place to stay - just the start of the gower - easy to get to Pennard and into Swansea - although from what I saw of Swnsea, it may be best to leave it to the locals!

As of yet, there are no deadlines, though I am told that I should be making reservations for Porthcawl no later than the end of October. I would like to have a decent idea of numbers before booking. When I do book I will try to pad out extra spots if the club will allow for it in deposits. I don't know how many Pests are required to carry on with the event. I spose it depends on how badly those Pests who have paid want to come.
