A bit of humor ...
« on: March 05, 2009, 12:53:17 PM »

#10 Golfer: "Think I'm going to drown myself in the lake." Caddy: "I don't think you can keep your head down that  long."

#9 Golfer: "I'd move heaven and earth to break 100 on this course." Caddy: "Try heaven, you've already moved most of the earth."

#8 Golfer:"Do you think my game is improving?" Caddy: "Yes sir, you miss the ball much closer now."

#7 Golfer: "Do you think I can get there with a 5 iron?" Caddy: "Eventually."

#6 Golfer: "You've  got to be the worst caddy in the world." Caddy: "I don't think so  sir. That would be too much of a coincidence."

#5 Golfer: "Please stop checking your watch all the time. It's too much of a distraction." Caddy: "It's not a watch - it's a compass."

#4 Golfer: "How do you like my game?" Caddy: "Very good sir, but personally, I prefer golf."

#3 Golfer: "Do you think it's a sin to play on Sunday?" Caddy: "The way you play, sir, it's a sin on any day."

#2 Golfer: "This is the worst course I've ever played on." Caddy: "This isn't the golf course. We left that an hour  ago."

and the #1 best caddy comment:   Golfer:  "That can't be my ball, it's too old." Caddy: "It's been a long time since we teed off, sir."

My favorite caddy comment ever... on the 11th hole at the Ocean Course... while my friend, CO's ball was still in the air and hooking towards the dunes on the left...

CO:  "Is that OK?"

Caddy:  "Right now it is."

I guess you had to be there.

Matt,

On the Old Course a  player was hacking it up most awfully and scoring in three figures. He came to the 18th, skimmed a drive along the ground, popped the next about thirty yards and by a miracle sclaffed his third into the hole.

Turning to his by now exhausted caddie, said "Hey caddie, golfs a funny game isn't it." The very succinct reply was, " Aye sor, but it wasn't meant to
be."

GOLF LAWS
Never try to keep more than 300 separate thoughts in your mind during your
swing.

When your shot has to carry over a water hazard, you can either hit one more
club or two more balls.

If you're afraid a full shot might reach the green while the foursome ahead
of you is still putting out, you have two options: you can immediately shank
a lay-up or you can wait until the green is clear and top a ball halfway
there.

The less skilled the player, the more likely he is to share his ideas about
the golf swing.

The inevitable result of any golf lesson is the instant elimination of the
one critical unconscious motion that allowed you to compensate for all of
your many other errors

Counting on your opponent to inform you when he breaks a rule is like
expecting him to make fun of his own haircut.

Nonchalant putts count the same as chalant putts it's not a "gimme" if
you're still next to play.

The shortest distance between any two points on a golf course is a straight
line that passes directly through the centre of a very large tree.

You can hit a two acre fairway 10% of the time and a two inch branch 95% of
the time.

If you really want to get better at golf, go back and take it up at a much
earlier age.

Since bad shots come in groups of three, a fourth bad shot is actually the
beginning of the next group of three.

When you look up, causing an awful shot, you will always look down again at
exactly the moment when you ought to start watching the ball if you ever
want to see it again.

Every time a golfer makes a birdie, he must subsequently make two triple
bogeys to restore the fundamental equilibrium of the universe.

If you want to hit a 7 iron as far as Tiger Woods does, simply try to lay up
just short of a water hazard.

To calculate the speed of a player's downswing, multiply the speed of his
back-swing by his handicap; I.e., back-swing 20 mph, handicap is 15,
downswing = 300 mph.

There are two things you can learn by stopping your back-swing at the top
and checking the position of your hands: how many hands you have, and which
one is wearing the glove.

If there is a ball on the fringe and a ball in the bunker, your ball is in
the bunker. If both balls are in the bunker, yours is in the footprint

It's easier to get up at 6:00 AM to play golf than at 10:00 to mow the lawn.

Golf is the perfect thing to do on Sunday because you always end up having
to pray a lot.

A good golf partner is one who's always slightly worse than you are ....
that's why I get so many calls to play with friends.

Golf balls are like eggs. They're white. They're sold by the dozen. And you
need to buy fresh ones each week.

It's amazing how a golfer who never helps out around the house will replace
his divots, repair his ball marks, and rake his sand traps.

If your opponent has trouble remembering whether he shot a six or a seven,
he probably shot an eight (or worse).

It takes longer to learn to be a good golfer than it does to become a brain
surgeon. On the other hand, you don't get to ride around on a cart, drink
beer, eat hot dogs and fart if you are performing Brain Surgery!!!

Two quick true stories on caddy comments ...

A buddy of mine are playing a place in Scotland and my friend turns to the caddy we have and asks him if the tees we are playing are the extreme tips.

The caddy turned to him and said, "Lad, we could open the gates for you if you'd like !

Second story ...

Same trip with the same guy and we happen to be warming-up prior to the round itself - my friend is hitting each and every shot as pure as can be. He now feels a bit of satisfaction and turns to our caddy who is watching the two of us.

My buddy says to him -- "Impressed aren't you?"

The comeback was a classic ...

"If that's where you were aiming Lad !"

Since everyone is playing...

Years ago at Pebble, we had a caddie who claimed to have caddied for Bernhard Langer in the AT&T several weeks earlier. When a friend asked him how well Langer had read PB's greens,he replied "about as well as I can read a German newspaper".

One of the guys in my group said to the caddy after a huge push/slice, "Think you can find that one"?

Caddy says "Not even the frogs go where your ball is"
Live Jupiter, Fl, was  4 handicap, played top 100 US, top 75 World. Great memories, no longer play, 4 back surgeries. I don't miss a lot of things about golf, life is simpler with out it. I miss my 60 degree wedge shots, don't miss nasty weather, icing, back spasms. Last course I played was Augusta

Another amusing story ...

Friend of mine hits a tee shot way left into a wetlands area and turns to the caddy and asks if they can find it.

The response was a classic ...

"Sir, they could warp that ball in bacon and Lassie could not find it !"

No offense intended now. As a person who deals with circulating Internet humor every day of every year, I'm honestly curious:

Did you just now see these lines for the first time?

P.S. Just checked. Had forgotten. I posted them here myself -- with apologies for those who'd already seen them -- six-plus years ago! Cf. http://golfclubatlas.com/forum/index.php/topic,1332.0.html

Male golfer hits beutiful 9 wood second on short par 5 to 1 foot from the pin. Says to caddy, bet you don't see many 9 wood shots a close as that do you. Caddy replies, only from the ladies sir.

I stole that one from someone here as it became quite appropriate as I bought my first age specific 9 wood last year.

Rich,
It's a question.  Did you understand it?  How is it funny or a smackdown?  I had a caddie once...he gave me a banana...I ate it.  Not funny.  "We've seen worse."  Not funny.

Ronald:

This from an observer here.

When a caddie says "we" he means he and the player.

I take it he meant they had already seen worse lies.. and this was just the fourth hole.

So while I bet he meant it as encouragement it was a bit of a smackdown.

And while it is also not reason for guffawing, it's not whollly unfunny.

That's my take anyway.

See, Tom, I read it as encouragement.  "We've seen worse, now get the F%#^$r out of there!"  It's the fourth hole, the caddie wants a tip, he's not risking the money by carving his loop a new one so early.  Believing that I had missed something, I went fishing here, but no one has any funny fish for me.  Maybe if he had said "We'll see worse yet," it might have been a smack.

I know the Bruce Lietzke story...good father, that guy.

I read it as encouragement as well.  So the smackdown part is stretching things.  But again, it's not wholly unfunny as I see it.

In any case... no big deal either way.  I just thought maybe you didn't understand it.  Obviously you do.

I know the Bruce Lietzke story...good father, that guy.

"An often-told story that sums up Lietzke’s laid-back style as a golfer originated when his caddie stuck a banana underneath his driver cover, sure that Lietzke was joking when he said he wouldn’t see his golf bag again until the first tournament of the next year. That banana remained untouched until the following season, when the caddy found the shriveled, blackened and rotten mess.

Lietzke tossed the driver and kept the caddie."

First time I've heard it... dat funny!
