Australian Golf Digest is reporting today that Alister Mackenzie’s Royal Melbourne Golf Club will play host to the 2028 President’s Cup after what we would all consider one of, if not the best in recent memory for the 2019 edition. As architecture fans, this is the best case scenario as we all watched Royal Melbourne shine during one of the rare riveting President Cup’s. In particular, Tiger Woods showcased some really quality iron play, while Abe Ancer put on a short game showcase.
Perhaps by 2028 the International Team will be able to keep pace with or perhaps clip the United States. The last time the International Team won was 1998 at—you guessed it—Royal Melbourne.
The President’s Cup will take place late September 2022 at Quail Hollow Club outside Charlotte, North Carolina. From there, Canadian’s will play host at Royal Montreal in 2024, 2026 is at the new & improved Medinah No. 3, and then as reported, 2028 to Australia. 2030 will head back to US Soil, where Bellerive in St. Louis will host the world’s best yet again following the 2018 PGA Championship.
No disrespect to the other upcoming venues, but there is something truly exciting about a great golf course like Royal Melbourne hosting events, where skill and strategy provide more interest than the current trajectory of the game.
