Robert Emmons- RIP

I recently learned that Rob Emmons passed away early in summer 2019. Rob was a friendly soft spoken gentleman who had a great passion for golf and golf architecture. Rob served for decades on the greens committee at Huntington Country Club and was a great steward of the course maintaining its design integrity.


Rob hosted several outings where he relished introducing people to Devereux Emmet's imaginative/visionary architecture that pervades Huntington's rolling landscape. I will miss him! .

This caught me completely off guard. We had dinner in Toronto when he came up. He was great company and a really engaging man. He did a great job as green's chair at Huntington CC. He got the club pointed in the right direction and began the restoration with Glenn. They deserve a lot of credit for where the club is today.

I never met Robert but had the opportunity to play the course twice, and my guess is challenging membership to covert to GCA-speak. In an area of obvious abundance of greatness and history, HCC is a local under the radar membership that could have gotten sucked into "country club trends".


I would classify it in the unique category of "great golf course with a country club around it". Robert seems to have been a big piece of that.

That's sad news.  Thanks for sharing. 


Having had the opportunity to experience Huntington CC is a highlight of my golf life.  Robert's generosity and interest in sharing his course's legacy made a lasting impression on me, and I'm sure on many others.

Bob was a very gracious host and huge booster of Huntington CC. There have been a bunch of threads lately regarding restorations and HCC as much as any club benefitted from a thoughtful plan to reclaim many of the Golden Age design features that had been lost. He was really proud of the finished work as everyone involved well should be. Condolences to his family and friends.

Very sad indeed, spent a day playing and studying Huntington CC with him too long ago.  He was very engaging, a generous / gracious host and loved talking about the restoration of this Emmet masterpiece! My condolences to his family.
