Although Leonard Macomber was brought in during the initial phase of the project, the original 9 hole course was laid out by W. C. Jackson. In 1965 Jackson's course was replaced by a new 18 holes which underwent an extensive recent renovation.
Originally a logging outpost on the Wisconsin River where logs would be floated to market, the city is better known today for its branch of the University of Wisconsin. It is also the home town of distance runner Suzy Favor Hamilton and Joel Hodgson, the creator of Mystery Science Theater 3000.
