I have an update on Cherokee Plantation. Just spoke to a representative of the club. According to him:

The course has never been shut down.  They have done some work on a few greens and will probably do some more next summer. The purpose is to create "more pin positions".
They have only about a dozen "owners" (members) and since they almost never visit during the summer, most of the work is done during the summer. Temprorary greens are used and the course has been and is open for play.

I hope to visit CP within the next month and get a first hand look at what they have done. Will report back.

Just heard from a friend that Steel has completed the additional 9 holes at Enniscrone Golf Club a West Coast Links course in Ireland. A tentative trip is planned for late Spring and I will report back.

The book is great and this suject was discussed at length a couple months ago. I do not think much of his work though. The work at turnberry was very average on a great piece of land.
