Courses with 0 trees

I'm trying to recall any course I've played without trees. St. Andrews pretty close but I seem to remember 1 or 2 tiny trees. I figured the high winds never allowed anything to grow high, but maybe it was greens supers. It always seemed to me that no trees must be a supers dream. Can anybody help my fading memory about St. Andrews and/or mention treeless courses ?      Thanks - ET

Twisted Dune(NJ)

There are some trees that boarder the outside of the property on the 2nd, and 3rd holes, but they really don't come into play. Other than that, there are no trees on the entire property except "one lone scraggly pine" that sits near the 15th green, and is not in play.

The course is a treeless dunescape, with a wonderful mix of holes and design features. My favorite "new" course in the Philly/S Jersey area.

Wyncotte originally had one old tree that didn't look any too healthy when I was there some time ago. If there were more I didn't notice them.

The Senior Tour event in Chicago is moving from Kemper
to Harborside.

And I believe you are correct.  I don't recall any trees at
Harborside, but it's been a couple of years.

I flew over Oakmont yesterday on  the way to Dalllas.  the number is getting very close to "zero", but not quite.

No sir, the number of trees at Oakmont is not getting near zero, although it may appear that way from 35,000ft. but the good news for such as yourself is they have removed far more trees than most know. But near zero they will not be getting!

Two treeless windswept courses in way northern Scotland come to mind - Durness GC (9 hole) and Wick GC (18).

I'm sure RTJ Jr's Tierra del Sol GC in Aruba (1998) is also treeless.

Carne in Belmullet, Ireland is sans trees to the best of my memory (fallible).
Connemara ditto.  Enniscrone?  Rosses Point/County Sligo? Narin and Portnoo? Now that I think of it, Lahinch is treeless. No?

Brora has no tree that I recall ; only sheep and beach nor does Machrihanish. Very bad form for the course and slope ratings exercise.

Shivas and Paul;  Harborside is treeless and will remain so for precisely the reasons stated by Shivas.  Earlier landfill courses planted trees which grew well for several years.  But when the tree roots penetrated the cap the trees died and gases and other pollutants were released.  This necessitated a treeless faux links style design which was atypical for Dick Nugent at the time he did these courses.  If other landfills are converted to similar uses they will probably have to take the same tack.

Archie told me that he has homicidal intentions re: the lone tree that sits on Twisted Dune.  

While I love his philosophy, I like the fact that there is only 1.  If nothing else, it begs the enjoyable question, "where'd the rest of them go?"   ;D

Shivas; I agree with you on the setting, I'd also like it to play firmer.  I have some other issues but on balance I think they are both solid layouts and a great use of the property.  I've always wondered why a clay cap would be that much different from many of the clay soils in the area.  Maybe a deeper layer of sandy topsoil over the capwould help,  I can't say that I know anything about the greenskeeping practices.  Could overwatering be a culprit.  There are a lot of factors that contribute to a course's drainage characteristics but since this one is so new they had a real opportunity to avoid problems.  This is awfully far afield from the original topic.

Sundance Golf Course in New Braunfels TX wasdesigned by Lester George with no trees.  It's a good test of shots and skills.
