It is interesting how much more detailed the course routings become as you move through the 1920's. No doubt there are exceptions, but the old stick routings become rare. Or are you not posting them?

The attention given to the details of greens shapes, bunkering, rough lines and vegetation by the 1920's is perhaps a telltale of thinking/assumptions about the work of the architect that differed from earlier eras.

In any event, great stuff. Please keep posting.

There was a lot more money spent on golf in the 1920's than years prior.

The routing maps are merely evidence of that fact.

That Cypress routing is interesting no?

Also looks like Baldock and Neville used the Raynor/MacKenzie/Hunter routing for the Shore course. Of course 7 holes had already been started and they were hemmed in by sold lots, so likely had no choice.

Mike,

Most of the pictures we see about Cypress is the same, but the holes between 5-13 are just a little different. I think 16 is a par 3, and MacKenzie initially had it as a par 4, so it would not surprise me if this is based on a Raynor routing. Of course as I told Bret, it could be Morse or anyone just trying to figure out where the lots were going to be.

I’m not all that proficient at topographic maps, but it almost looks to me as if the eighteenth green at Pebble might be in the pre 1923 position further east from its iconic site. I would love if someone else could look at that. The site of that green would help narrow down the date of the map. It is certainly no later than 1926 in my opinion.
