Golf Course Design - John Daly Style
« on: August 29, 2002, 12:25:23 AM »
JOHN DALY last night revealed he's moving into golf course design - with an Elvis Presley-themed course.

Blue suede golf shoes will be optional when the former Open champion and self- confessed Elvis nut is finished.

Gearing up for this weekend's BMW International Open in Munich, Daly said: "Elvis's favourite house was the White House and they will replicate that.

"Donna Presley, his first cousin, will decorate it as he would have wanted it - it's going to be beautiful.

"Elvis still has 50million fans. I've got pretty much all his albums and I had a chance to buy one of his baby grand pianos. A guy outbid me, though. He paid £85,000 and I wasn't going that far."

Daly is also going to work on a venue in China and plans to create the world's longest course in Las Vegas.

He said: "It will be 8500 yards long from the back tees."

After reading the quotes below, it's clear that Big John has a very fine grasp of the subtleties of the design styles of Messrs. Pete Dye and Tom Fazio... ::) ::)

MUNICH, Germany -- John Daly is helping to design an Elvis Presley memorial complex in Memphis that will include two golf courses.

"We are doing this thing called 'Elvis Presley Ranch' in Memphis," Daly, who defends his BMW International title in Germany this week, told reporters Tuesday. "Hopefully we are getting hold of Pete Dye and Tom Fazio to design two courses.

"One will be a water course which Pete is the master at, and the other by Tom will be with trees."

Daly, the big-hitting former PGA and British Open champion, has been employed as a consultant on the complex, which will also include a replica White House as well as a studio, concert venue and hotels.

"It is really going to be beautiful," Daly said. "This is Elvis's dream ranch."

Daly has already been a "player consultant" on another course about 5 years ago.  He consulted on Wicked Stick in Myrtle Beach.  Back tees are the Daly tees.

So does this mean that they will have a snack shack after every hole complete with booze and chocolate donuts.  Nothing more disgusting than another theme based golf course.  It is like sim city crossed with mini golf.  A hole in one grants you a brand new cadillac.

What does it matter if the poor player can putt all the way from tee to green, provided that he has to zigzag so frequently that he takes six or seven putts to reach it?     --Alistair Mackenzie--
