As for today's stumper, another here wanted to see this
course a few months ago, and here it is pieced together.  Looks like and interesting location.

And looks at those tees!  In the words of Frank
Barone:  "Holy Crap!"   Those are runways if I ever saw.

One particular hole gave #1 away instantly. I am also familiar with the double sided range, recently saw a show where John Daly reached the tees on the opposite side with a booming drive.

Speaking of Daly, how about that 11 he took on
the "signature hole" yesterday?  I think 3 stroke-and-
distance penalties off the tee, a lateral penalty over the
green, and one putt.  Or something like that.  He was 2-
under for the other 17 holes.


The surrounding water on #2 should help narrow down it's location.

Superstars have played this course before.

#1 has a direct relaton to the last aerial shown from this state.

#2 has the longest tee in the world.  I'm assuming it's the one near the water in the tip middle of the pic.  It looks to be
about 100 yards long.  Then there's that half circle tee for
the par 3 above the tennis courts.

I wonder if the Superstars who played here played before or
after participating in the Obstacle Course.

The key to playing this course is to hit it low, as it is a very
windy location, otherwise, it wil beat you up like an old
Chevy from the 50's and 60's.

Does anyone else think #8 on the first pic looks like #17 at Ocean at Kiawah?

But, I'm stumped on #2.  A wild guess is that it is  monster on the southern oposite side of the country from #1, and not a RTJ design which one would logically think of the runway tees. :-/

I wasn't sure if the MOOO referred to the farmland it used to
ocupy, or that he thought the curse was a cow pasture.  

Correct, that #2 is not RTJ Sr., despite the runway tees.  The
previous AOTD by this pair also had runway tees, and is not
too far from this one.

This course has a new name, and is still basically known by
it's old name, of which several of the previous clues referred to.

Let's roll the YAPCR clues:

To be blunt, Superstars refers to the TV show.

If a murder happened on this course, the new C.S.I. TV show
could come here.

Police Academy 5 was near here.  (Not that I've seen it   )

Sly, Ms. Estefan, and Madonna live in this area.

#1 is of course Hazeltine National, site of the PGA
Championship going on right now, in Chaska, MN, by Robert
Trent Jones, Sr.  It also hosted the 1970 and 1991 U.S.
Opens., the 1966 and 1977 U.S. Women's Opens, the 1983
U.S. Senior Open, and 1994 Mid-Amateur.

The club was founded by a bunch of members of Minikahda,
a previous AOTD, who wanted a second course, as Minikahda
was threatened by a proposed freeway.

The signature hole, #16 jutting out in the lake (a la #17 at
Congressional), is at the top of the photo and gave the
course away.

of the 1970 U.S. Open.

I'm guessing that someone got hit by lightning here?  Was it

#2 is Crandon Park, formerly known at Links At Key Biscayne
or Biscayne Bay, on Key Biscayne, just south of Miami Beach,
FL, by Robert Von Hagge and Bruce Devlin.  It has hosted a
Senior Tour event.

The same pair did Pat Mucci's Boca Rio nearby, and it also
had the runway tees, a la RTJ, Sr.  Pat wanted to see this
course.

The one hole is the world's largest tee.

Light blue sea water and coral show tropical locale.

The syndicated TV show, Superstars (from the 80's and
restarted recently), featuring famous athletes competing in
mini-Olympic-type events, plus the famous Obstacle Course
(Lynn Swann's dominant event), competed on Key Biscayne,
though the restarted version is in Jamaica, I think.  Always
liked that show. A Closest to the Pin competition was one
event, I asusme held on this course.

"Chevy from 50's/60's" = "Biscayne"

new CSI show is "CSI: Miami"

Shoot...  I used to play the old Links at Key Biscayne (later called Crandon Park) when I used to live in Miami when I headed up Marketing and PR for Windjammer Barefoot Cruises.  It's actually quite an enjoyable course.  Never had to pull out my driver until No. 4.  The problem came around 7, 8 and 9 where the stentch of rotting mangrove roots was quite strong.  Racoons everywhere!  It used to cost about $15 to walk after 2pm...

I've walked around hazeltine the last few days at the PGA and it seems to be an excellent tournament course with lots of exciting holes, and and there is nothing unfair about it(unlike Bethpage #10).  Although it doesn't seem like it would be a great members course because it has little strategy.  But other than that it looks pretty good.

#2 has the longest tee in the world.  

I had always thought that the 666 hole at Pine Tree #16?  had a 150 yd tee.   Mucci ought to know.

It was a 7-8 iron in 1985 to hit it over the whole thing (Must be a  Calloway PW now)
