Sharp Rise, Plateau, and Settling in Myrtle Beach Golf
« on: August 10, 2006, 12:19:02 PM »
It seems that every week there is news about another course closing in the Grand Strand area.  Could anyone direct me to a list, by year, of MB course openings, and a list of the ones that have gone NLE in the last couple years?  I just was told that two or three of the four courses at Wild Wing Plantation were being developed.

One of the first to fall victim to the gross overdevelopment of the are was Winyah Bay Golf Course, a fun, short golf course with some neat half-par holes and a marsh-laden finish.  It was also the first golf course on which I broke 100 for 18 holes.  Does anyone happen to have any pictures of the now-late course?

Tim,
There was a good article some time ago, I think in the NYT, listing some of the courses that were, or were going to be, closed.

MB was trucking along nicely with ca. 100 courses sharing 4 million rounds. Then 7 new courses were built (with no increase in the number of rounds), cutting the 'share' by 2,600 rounds per course, with the new venues benefitting from their advertising 'hype'.
