Players To Be Paid For Ryder Cup Participation
« on: Today at 04:12:11 PM »
I know there is a divergence of opinion on this subject so I’m wondering if there is a consensus in the discussion group? I read an interesting quote from Rory McIlroy saying he’d “pay for the privilege to play in the event.”

I don't have an issue with the players getting paid.  The PGA is making a bunch of money on this and it's now like all of sports, entertainment.

Now having said that, I think you see the difference in cultures and why the Ryder Cup is more regarded by the European side.  It just means more.

How could they charge $750 a day and not pay them? Back in the day I think it was a loser money wise but that was a long time ago. If all the profits went to charity it would be one thing…..

Seeing a number of $400K being reported...should be increased 4X to $1.6M, at a minimum, IMO.

Single day tix are $750 for the tourney days at the Black, absolutely absurd.

I was at the Ryder Cup at Oak Hill. You stand in the first fairway and watch the groups hit their 2nd shot. Then run 5 holes ahead and watch the groups hit one shot. Then run 5 holes ahead...... At the end of the day you see about 30 shots depending on format for $750 plus plus. Not sure you can even do that on the Black. The PGA of America has missed the mark. I think it was $250 in Rome. Supply and demand.....

Are they paying the Americans - but not the Europeans?

Doesn't seem right if it's true.

Perhaps they should only be paid if they discuss golf course architecture?

Of course they should be paid
Live Jupiter, Fl, was  4 handicap, played top 100 US, top 75 World. Great memories, no longer play, 4 back surgeries. I don't miss a lot of things about golf, life is simpler with out it. I miss my 60 degree wedge shots, don't miss nasty weather, icing, back spasms. Last course I played was Augusta
