Live Jupiter, Fl, was  4 handicap, played top 100 US, top 75 World. Great memories, no longer play, 4 back surgeries. I don't miss a lot of things about golf, life is simpler with out it. I miss my 60 degree wedge shots, don't miss nasty weather, icing, back spasms. Last course I played was Augusta

I’m a fan of Hovland and would be happy to see him win. That said I am pulling for Fowler.

A week before Portrush I was delighted to be offered 66:1 on Lowry. If we ever meet I'll thank him for the tickets and flights to the Comp and new driver.  Last week he was 33:1 on a links course, with dodgy weather promised, no longer a journeyman playing in the Irish suburb of Liverpool??? £5 to win.

Also have Rory to win. Hoylake has been good to the Irish.  My mother had golf lessons off Fred Daly who's victory in 1947 there, made himthe only Irishman to win a major prior to Harrington. Rory has form there and the atmosphere should suit him as long as he's not quite so pumped up on the first tee as he was at Portrush where started OOB with an iron!

Fowler is on fire, likeable and surprisingly good when conditions turn 'real'.
Grace was controlling the ball in the wind at Deal last week and 100:1 caught my eye.

Still I expect to be £20 poorer Sunday night!

I root for players that I like who haven't won a major and are long shots. I've rooted for Rickie for a long time, but his odds have gotten  better of late  These guys are all 40:1 or 50:1

I was just looking at the scores and noticed they paired Brooks Koepka with Patrick Cantlay for the first two rounds.  Still trying their damnedest to hold back the LIV guys, I guess.


I also saw the press conference where Martin Slumbers was soliciting Saudi money for the R & A.  I guess you can ask for it both ways.

I love underdogs, so I hope it is someone outside the top 50 where it will change their life and catapult them into history. A bonus would be from a non-golfing country as that helps grown the game too.

Re slow and fast players playing together, one of the commentators on SKY referred to the difference between Harman and Young and suggested that it would suit Young the fast player to be playing with a slow player (Harman). I didn't quite see the logic in that and I also didn't think Harman was that slow although he did do a lot of twitching.


As for Slumbers, as a friend of mine who is an R&A member pointed out to me this weekend, Slumbers main role was to increase revenue from the Open which he's done.

Given his footwork when striking a full shot, anybody else believe that Scottie Scheffler will have difficulty achieving the same the same type of success on links courses as he has achieved elsewhere?
