Question; if Justin Thomas showed up at Elie wearing the same clobber he's wearing at the Open, would he be allowed on ?

If JUSTIN THOMAS showed up? Probably. The rest of us?

It doesn't bother me but my first reaction was he just came from a pre-dawn paintball competition.

What’s a clobber?  No Laying Up observed that Phil is wearing a tee shirt today. They really don’t like him.

He single handedly destroyed Polo Golf with his homophobic slur. If he makes the Greyson hoodie uncool I’ll be pissed.

Mind you, given that I am the proud possessor of polo shirts that are probably older than JT, who the hell am I to criticise?

I don't care what players wear, but I do question the hoodie. When the wind is blowing, I find hoods (on a sweatshirt or jacket) to be amazingly annoying, flapping in my face when I'm trying to hit a shot. I have a jacket with one, and I often end up tucking the hood inside the collar.

We call any collared, short sleeved, buttoned shirt a (lower case p) polo shirt. Not (only) the RL branded ones.

With apologies for veering from this golf architecture thread- well, all four in the picture have been involved in gca- I was at The OSU when Tom Weiskopf was near the top of the golf world and saw him often at the Scarlet & Grey GC.  He had an elegant, seemingly effortless swing which was a joy to watch up closely.  Tom was always immaculately attired, but he could have worn shorts and a tee shirt and still make a fashion statement.  Here is a fairly recent clip on his battle with pancreatic cancer.

Thanks for sharing that and reminding us all of the importance of having good friends while faced with a health care crisis.

Yeah Dan they don't wear collars now, but wear hoddies instead?

Ron Cerudo’s trousers were quite sporty in the 70’s.  Young Bogey had a pair of red and white checked polyesters that would have done any Italian table proud.  Also had a white pair with par, birdie and bogey in different colors as party-only trou in college.  Coeds loved them and they were quite flexible for gatoring.

We wear a similar hoodie on the river and the hood flapping around doesn't happen. The hoods are much more form fitting than a hood on a sweatshirt, so they don't act like a windsock

I'm sure JT's outfitter will be devastated that a heap of dudes in their 50s through 70s don't like the look!

The problem is not the hoodie or trousers, it's those shoes with them.

Pair of trainer-style golf shoes like the Nike contingent was wearing yesterday and he looks ace.

You're right, DT - and so is Scott! I have to take this to heart. But what's scary is when even Cannonball Adderley is getting too loud!

The thing is, the 50s to 70s are old enough to have lived through cycles of fashion and sighed and laughed at their old photos. The saving grace for the 70s was colour... which we now laugh at, but fondly. When JT looks at photos of himself 25 years down the line he will wonder what the hell was I thinking.

Ciao

Fail today on the multicolored Viktor Hovland sweater. I’m a fan of Viktor but as I’ve noticed previously he seems to be sartorially challenged.
