As I type this, the sequence 12345 is juxtaposed into the number of threads that currently exist on the GCA discussion group.

For posterity's sake, as of 10:51 pm, EST, Sunday, January 16th, 2022, Review of Feinstein's new book, "Open" anchors the massive number of discussions that live in this virtual space that many of us call our fifth home.

Many of the authors and posters are no longer active on GCA. Some simply went away, while others passed on from this world.

One way to ensure that newer, younger members of the DG go away, is to hammer them with "we've had 96 threads on that topic already." I'm not searching through 53124 threads to ensure that my notion has not yet been discussed.

Another way to ensure that newer, younger members of the DG go away, is to be overly harsh in criticism of their perspectives, the frequency of thread creation, or other aspects that you find unpalatable.

There is a difference between dialogue and debate, and outright meanness. Opt for the former, not the later. Too little time remains in all of our lives for the later.

Without newer, younger members, Golf Club Atlas dies.

I miss a lot of the guys from 10 years ago. Always knew Garland was a God.

This thread I started that has lots of commentary from The Lurker is worth a look for new members:

Excellent Joe. It’s just so difficult to post photos.

Note to Ronald M.: Thanks! I appreciate your call for some patience with relatively new posters/members. I "went dark" sometime back around 2012 but recently (in retirement and in pursuit of my 1000th different course), I rejoined this group. I consider GCA to be the definitive group on the greatest game. I'm trying to remember how to avoid formatting issues and a gentle nudge about "this was covered previously" is more than appreciated, especially when someone points me in the direction of the relevant threads. We've probably all known golf clubs that got squeezed when they failed to attract new members and hold onto new members. Let that never happen here! There are newbies here... just as there are gods. There are people, who've played in more countries than I have states. There are architects, writers, 28 handicappers and scratch players but everyone loves the game of golf and that's the beauty of the site.

Long live golfclubatlas!!

Here is a thread called "de(evolution) of Cobb's Creek" that I started in September of 2007 and is worth a read (or re-read) for new members:
