2022 Midwest Mashie Sunday - Monday SEPT 11-12 LANDMAND. Curious? See for yourself
I first met Tad King and Rob Collins in the purest of GolfClubAtlas ways. Waaaay back in 2018 B.C.(Before COVID) It was the halcyon early days of Sweetens Cubby Hole innocence. A buddy and I had the bright idea that we could help fix up a public golf facility with horrible conditions located in the middle of a lot of golfers. Enough folks were complaining that it needed to be drastically better and you could see the grass roots displeasure bubbling over. We figured we could raise the money and present our GCA literate plan to opened armed grateful owners. To do so, we needed a golf archie willing to wade into a development deal swamp with us. I called Adam Lawrence and asked for suggestions.
ADAM: “Hmmm... - PAUSE - Your idea has merit. It is incendiary as feck. It will surely start a land war, but it is quite sound. (Those that know Adam, you KNOW you can hear him)
ME: Think we can pull it off?
ADAM Continued: "Highly unlikely. It is sure to be a political shit show. But what do I care, I live in England and it will amuse me to no end watch you try. It is actually rather compelling, and I wish you well. Rob and Tad are looking for an 18-hole project and might enjoy the adventure, but move fast”
So I reached out to King-Collins, we chatted, and setup a meet. Adam flew over, Rob and Tad flew up. We gathered some folks with shared interests, met for cocktails, dinner, and agreed it was doable. We might pull it off if we did the raise and walked in with a bag of money. We raised the money the owners never thought we would. Owners decided they didn’t actually want our private help with their public golf course after all, and asked us to stay off of their lawn. (Story for another day) The upside is that we all remained pals and vowed to work on something together. Since then, I have followed the Landmand project pretty closely which includes production of a documentary with Andy/Fried Egg. Flash to today's news. With a big thanks to King-Collins, and Will of Landmand GC:
The 2022 GolfClubAtlas Midwest Mashie will celebrate a fall golf harvest at Landmand Golf Course in Homer, Nebraska, Sunday and Monday of September 11 and 12, 2022. They don’t officially open until 2023 so this is a true GCA sneak-geek preview.
THIS IS NOT A SIGN UP THREAD and sign up will be limited to Registered GCA (No plus ones)
There is a New procedure for Mashie Registration
- Every year, a ton of folks sign up for the Mashie.
- Every year, a 3/4 ton end up cancelling.
- This leaves us with a joyful pile of waitlist management.
- We generally end up confirming many of the same 20 or so folks that have attended previous Mashies.
With golf swiftly selling out everywhere, we’re not doing that anymore.
We are now doing this:
1: Previous hosts are grandfathered in. Host one, you'll know why.
2: Next, folks that have attended a TBD number of Mashies will get an email from Thurm
3: We will pre-announce an open registration date for new sign ups.
4: Our extensive Mashie Data Analytics has verified that after cancellations, just about anyone that wanted to attend has been able to do so.
5: The Landmand Mashie will likely be able to accommodate any willing to travel to Homer Nebraska to play golf.
6: As the course is not open, we are currently only planning slots for those registered on GCA and all signups must come thru GCA registration.
7: Note, most Mashies cap out around 25-30 so unless more than 50 want to attend, everyone should be able to join the festival.
Sign up will go live in January and we will post the sign up instructions in advance. Final Pricing TBD but it will be commensurate with our previous public facility visits.

George, Thurm and I have been working on this for a full COVID year. This is a rare opportunity but you should be aware that we looked very hard at a number of places on the east side of Lake Michigan. We had some close calls but golf is booming, and the timing for LGC access was fortuitous.
We have some excellent East/Midwest choices lined up for 2023.
