Polarizing suggestion, but at once wildly entertaining and borderline bizarre:
Desert Pines
It's routed on a 90 acre, square piece of property on the wrong end of town. Along the way, you'll pass a parade of hinky hustlers, kinky tweekers and lost souls in what amounts to the human trash bin of Vegas they never show in their flashy ads.
However, each hole is so obviously contrived and shoe-horned together, there are all sorts of entertaining features . . . . like a fake version of a golf course, but built at 7/8 size.
That probably does not sound promising, but it is not a "bad" golf course at all - it is just unique in a disorienting, Perry Dye sort of way.
Each hole is bordered by mounding on the fringes, covered in dwarfish pine trees, growing out of a bed of dry needles.
When Her Redness was a prof at UNLV, I found myself going back in the same way you cannot resist watching a strange movie several times for the perverse amusement.
Bali Hai is just silly and ridiculously overpriced. Agree Royal Links is worth a try - although play it in the afternoon as they drench the course early.
Cascata is like paying $400 for a blow up hooker doll.
But if you want to take a drive to Boulder City, I promise you that Boulder Creek GC (original 18) is TERRIFIC - thoughtful, strategic and full of maddening choices. Plus, you will not leave feeling like your credit card was molested. It is the 2nd best track in Vegas after Shadow Creek.
