Presumably you are referring to the left-wing/wokest agenda ? If so I can't disagree.
If I was the commissioning editor at BBC Scotland the sort of subjects I'd like to touch on;
- the state of Scottish club scene - how are the rank and file clubs coping/surviving/thriving on the back of COVID. I'm sure there would be some interesting case studies that would engender a lot interest.
- the future of municipal golf - it's not all about St Andrews or Carnoustie - particularly going forward when local authorities are cash starved. How do you make them work where they are failing. Again another excellent case study would be the R&A acquiring the Lethamhill course from Glasgow Council and redeveloping it as a family orientated facility to encourage beginners from the parts of the community who might not normally find a pathway into the game.
- agronomy/design issues - there is probably nothing more that causes discussions in the clubhouse bar than the state of the course. Why not have a regular series on the issues that greenkeepers face eg. drainage issues, trees - good thing or a bad thing, bunkers - why they are being designed the way they are and why a lot of them have morphed into shapeless shallow saucers of sand. All that could lead nicely into a discussion on course design with a discussion on the history of design culminating in strategic design.
- history - it's stating the bleeding obvious to say that no country has a richer golfing history than Scotland so why not pick a story to highlight in each show, for example the Inverallochy fisherman playing a group MP's. A fascinating story and probably one few have heard of. I mean it wouldn't be difficult to come up with different stories every week.
Final thought, how about broadcasting it in English ? I've nothing against gaelic - some of my friends are gaelic speakers - but at the last census I understand they counted nearly twice as many Polish speakers in the country. Lets stop kidding on that gaelic is the national language of Scotland or indeed ever was.
Anyone else got any ideas ?
