Not at all sure who will be able to see this, but the trailer looks fairly interesting:

Did you watch the trailer? What’s the over-manicured course by the river? Struggling to identify…

Well played, sir! Considering we stayed just over the river only a couple of months ago, you'd think I might have got it.
Senility…

I'm pretty amazed I recognised it actually. I visited the course, briefly, with Rob Hiseman, I reckon about ten years ago. Paul Lawrie's son was playing. It must be the sandbar in the river that stuck somewhere deep in my subconscious.

Lawrie’s built a ‘golf centre’ just over the river - next door to Ardoe House, where we were staying.

Strange place Deeside, quite popular and exclusive, yet I know of no one that rates the golf course.

Photo of the par 3 first, taken this time last year, while cycling on The Deeside Way.

I’ve played a lot at Deeside… plus I used to caddie there as a kid in the Ronnie Corbett pro-cel-am.

Also had my first job there as a barman, aged 17…. Not sure that was strictly legal.

I have to say Harris looked much more interesting than I imagined it would. Apart from that it was pretty much what you would expect.

A couple of days later I'd all but forgotten about this program and was only reminded of it seeing this thread. I think the reason for that is other than having some nice pictures of the usual locations I didn't really find it all that engaging. I note there is only to be 3 episodes in the series and it's easy to see why. There simply doesn't seem to be a lot of substance to it or am I being overly harsh ?

Supplementary question; what would you like to see in future episodes/series ?

The BBC and their agenda make the same programme time and time again, just this time they did it with golf as a backdrop.

The next episodes will be exactly the same.

Presumably you are referring to the left-wing/wokest agenda ? If so I can't disagree.

If I was the commissioning editor at BBC Scotland the sort of subjects I'd like to touch on;

- the state of Scottish club scene - how are the rank and file clubs coping/surviving/thriving on the back of COVID. I'm sure there would be some interesting case studies that would engender a lot interest.

- the future of municipal golf - it's not all about St Andrews or Carnoustie - particularly going forward when local authorities are cash starved. How do you make them work where they are failing. Again another excellent case study would be the R&A acquiring the Lethamhill course from Glasgow Council and redeveloping it as a family orientated facility to encourage beginners from the parts of the community who might not normally find a pathway into the game.

- agronomy/design issues - there is probably nothing more that causes discussions in the clubhouse bar than the state of the course. Why not have a regular series on the issues that greenkeepers face eg. drainage issues, trees - good thing or a bad thing, bunkers - why they are being designed the way they are and why a lot of them have morphed into shapeless shallow saucers of sand. All that could lead nicely into a discussion on course design with a discussion on the history of design culminating in strategic design.

- history - it's stating the bleeding obvious to say that no country has a richer golfing history than Scotland so why not pick a story to highlight in each show, for example the Inverallochy fisherman playing a group MP's. A fascinating story and probably one few have heard of. I mean it wouldn't be difficult to come up with different stories every week.

Final thought, how about broadcasting it in English ? I've nothing against gaelic - some of my friends are gaelic speakers - but at the last census I understand they counted nearly twice as many Polish speakers in the country. Lets stop kidding on that gaelic is the national language of Scotland or indeed ever was.

Anyone else got any ideas ?

Niall
