Evan Fleisher/Vandy Shoutout
« on: June 28, 2021, 09:16:40 PM »
Ok totally personal riff so sue me.
First let me thank Evan for exemplifying a lot of what this site means to me.

When my son took his first job and moved to Clevepatch I immediately thought of Evan and asked him if he would mind a bit of low level surrogating. Evan  stepped up offering housing, food, and other urban advice and the assurance that he would be there if Leo needed bail or whatever. We also enjoyed a golfing tour of Cleveland to cement the adoptive process. This is a great thing about this treehouse: I know that almost any habitable spot on this planet harbors someone I can connect with and ascertain I can count on. Thank you again Evan
Secondly I remember OT posts concerning sporting allegiances so I am shouting out Vandy baseball. I am not particularly happy with some of the attitudes my alma mater now promotes but I am delighted to see a small school program dominate a MAJOR college sport. Just look in the stands at Omaha tonight and the sea of Maroon. Texas, Arizona, Tennessee, NC State: They have dominated these massive state schools the past few years. How refreshing. Kudos to Coach Corbin who is clearly one of the greatest ever.
I had tickets when they won in 2019 for Omaha which is on my bucket list but had a good friend qualify for the US Sr Open in South Bend and punted to follow him. What a fun event it appears to be!

My family has no connection with Vandy other than being in Omaha in 2015 for a 14U tournament and Vandy stayed at the same hotel as us.  They were all great with the boys.  Below is Vandy's all time best player, posing with my son (on right) and another teammate (on left) who just finished a successful year playing D1 baseball for Northwestern.

It was my pleasure to assist Leo in any way possible, and I loved the visit you made where we played golf, ate octopus ceviche and had cocktails on our new home's front porch...I just wish there were going to be more such visits but alas life moves on and so do our kids.  Interesting that both Leo and my daughter (Kathryn) are both now in the DC area...guess we're just gonna have to meet-up there instead!

BTW, Leo did reach out after you gave him the business for snubbing me. ;-)

I too am grateful for this wonderful, wacky treehouse gang.  Sooooooo many good times and special experiences have happened in my life (both on and off the golf course) due to the generosity of folks on this site.  It is truly a testament to the fraternity of brothers and sisters that this group has produced and their ability to make one feel warm, welcome and a part of something bigger.  A big THANK YOU to all!

Vandy Boys win by forfeit over Covid-ridden NC State squad.  Coincidence?

Ward, very good of you to thank Evan in this way.
Happy you mentioned Tim Corbin-one of the kindest gentlemen I've ever met-in the same post.
I'm sure they would be glad to be connected for their love of sport and helping others.
