How many double bogeys will the winner have?
« on: May 19, 2021, 04:54:43 PM »
Looking at the wind, firmness, and just plain gunch, a double bogey or worse is around every corner. Normally double bogeys are killers. Not this week. How many doubles wil the winner have? I think at least two maybe three. I never went around there without losing a ball.

These guys are good.  Winner will have 1 double but several bogeys, but will augment it with several birdies. And no eagles. If Koekpa was healthy he’d be a great pick like Jack in his heyday.

That was my thought also.

I wonder what the record would be (say in the last twenty years) and where that was?

We already have one slow play penalty enforced.  Rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic again by the rules mavens.

Amongst the top 10, Streelman, Bezuidenhout, Casey, and Connors do not have a double or worse. The rest all have at least one. Woodland had three today.

Koepka and Mickelson both have one, and they probably can’t spare one tomorrow.

Phil made just one double bogey. Oosthuizen and Koepke made two.

Tommy -
I would've never thought to ask that question or frame a good/winning score in that way. But the proof is in the answer and in the result. And I bet the 'keep doubles away' is a very fine 'metric' whether one's trying to win a major or break 80. I'm heading out to play 9 right now, and I'm going to tell myself: whatever else, no double bogey!!

Peter, I was thinking that at most tournaments the winner does not make a double. I thought it was likely that the leaders would at this course. There are too many bad lies just off the fairways.

I, too, hate doubles. I don't make many birdies anymore so doubles can ruin a score. Good luck keep every hole under 6.

Harrington, Higgs, and Casey did not double bogey any hole. Good on em. Higgs had very few bogies at all.
