We’ve booked The Queen’s Head from Saturday until Wednesday. Seems like a decent location.
We’re also currently looking at purchasing a wheeled gin palace (mobile home). If we go ‘down that road’ are there any decent camping places we could park at?

EDIT: Now booked at the Kingscroft Guest House. Olde worlde Edwardian charm galore!

Is there any chance we might need some more bodies? I’m fairly sure some of my mates (including some Archie types) would be interested.

That would be for the organiser to advise but I'd imagine if they can put on an American accent then they are in.

With the current travel restrictions, I am going to drop out.  Please use my deposit for drinks one night or however else the organizers see fit.

It seems inevitable that a lot of our American cousins are going to have to pull out due to the uncertainty and difficulty organising a trip due to COVID. Many of those who have already had to pull out have generously offered that their deposit be added to the drinks kitty and while I greatly appreciate the gesture (who doesn't like drink being bought for them !), what I'd love to see is the deposit returned so that they can put it towards the cost of future trips to BUDA when hopefully we'll all have the pleasure of meeting up for a game.

The "Powers That Be" (Tony Muldoon and myself) are in the process of compiling a definitive list of confirmed attendees at this year's BUDA.  This is not a straightforward task and it would be a great help if those on the following list could contact me with their attendance status and lodging arrangements. If you plan on being there for only part of the time or plan on only playing some of the rounds please let me know so that a master spreadsheet can be compiled.

Text or WhatsApp on +44 7720 285376 would be the preferred medium.

If you're not on this list don't fret - it's because you have already recently confirmed your attendence or non-attendence.

I have been in contact with the clubs and they are looking forward to welcoming as many Pests as possible. I really want to get the numbers finalised by 31st July so please contact me over this weekend if at all possible.

Despite the continued travel problems and the inevitable reduction in numbers of overseas visitors this is shaping up to be a fabulous event and I'm really looking forward to early September!

We can undoubtedly accommodate a few extra bodies. It would be great to have a full compliment of attendees. Please get in touch with me if you have someone who wants to part of BUDA

Thanks Duncan,

Can’t be easy organising with all the moving parts this year. For our part Paul and I are in for the full shebang. Not sorted accommodation yet.

This is the first time I headed a list in quite some time.  Unfortunately, making the Buda this year does not look promising given the ongoing political posturing in both of our countries.

I am not worried about our CDC- as a vaccinated citizen I don't think they would jail me upon my return.  If the UK/Scotland removes the quarantine requirements and testing by mid-August, I will do my best to book a flight, rental car (if affordable), and lodging.  Should some of the attendees have safety concerns about overseas visitors, I'd welcome your comments via IM.  I suspect that in the next couple of weeks we'll be hearing opinions about the Son of Lambda and the need for a handful of boosters.

Lou,

I fully understand your position.

I don't think anyone has concerns about individual overseas visitors - or individual returning UK tourists. It is the hypothetical spectre of hoards of incomers infected with weird new variants overwhelming the borders which captures the public imagination and is manipulated so successfully by politicians.

If things settle down in the next few weeks you are very welcome. Like you however, I'm not holding my breath.

Duncan,

Please take me off the participant list. I was holding out hope that the travel situation was going to improve but that doesn't appear to be the case. Very disappointing going two years with out playing the links of the UK.

As always, thank you for organizing.

I've been hoping someone more articulate than me might have said something to express the sadness of all this.

We only get so many chances to participate in great events and through no fault of our own we are being kept apart from people who's company we really enjoy and who we value meeting up with to share something we all have in common.  Buda is the keystone of my golfing year and the couple of times I've had to withdraw really hurt. Buda Cavendish will go ahead, but, like last year, it will be a Buda with an asterisk next to it. I'm convinced it will be great but not as great as it should have been.

Fully understand people making the tough decision not to travel and just fervently hope to see you all in 2022.

Be safe.

The two Jacks and I are hanging by a thread. We have air tickets which we can cancel at any time.

I’m contacting the clubs tomorrow to get a feel for how late we can cancel.

Mayday,

There is no need to contact the clubs - both are well aware of the situation and happy to work on the basis that “between 24 and 36” participants will be there.

You, the two Jacks, and Lou remain in the numbers until you make the decision to withdraw. Hopefully that won’t be necessary.

While the Naproxen is helping my painful arthritic hips and knee a lot, I still doubt if I am fit enough for 36-hole days. Can I see how the body is after 18 please?

With deep regret I'm pulling the plug.  There's too much uncertainty and I'm cancelling all of my reservations.  Sorry.

Maybe the money I save this year can be applied to an extended time in the UK and Europe next summer.

Looks like quarantine for fully vaccinated visitors from the US has been lifted.
