BUDA 2021. CAVENDISH AND REDDISH VALE - FINAL ARRANGEMENTS
« on: January 10, 2021, 11:16:50 AM »
PLEASE GO TO POST #105 TO CONFIRM YOUR ATTENDANCE (OR OTHERWISE)

In the middle of a lockdown in the UK with talk of restrictions being tightened even further as the infection rates and death toll climb higher by the day, it seems rather surreal and inappropriate to be thinking of a golfing get together in September.

However, time marches on and assuming a mass vaccination programme has the desired effect over the next six months there is every chance that BUDA 2021 can go ahead. Realistically the only way forward is to plan on that basis. Heaven knows, we all need something to look forward to!

As previously announced, the schedule is as follows;

Sunday  September 5th 2021   36 holes  Cavendish Golf Club (MacKenzie) with light lunch and dinner

Monday  September 6th 2021   36 holes  Reddish Vale Golf Club (MacKenzie) with light lunch

Tuesday September 7th 2021   18 holes  Cavendish Golf Club (MacKenzie) with light lunch

Total price for all of the above (but no alcohol) - £170 per head

Numbers will initially be limited to 24, with the possibility of extending to 36 should it be necessary. Serious expressions of interest have already been shown by  the following 37 potential Pests.

Duncan Cheslett
Jayne Cheslett
Sean Arble
James Boon
Ally McIntosh
Marty Bonnar
Mike Malone
Jack Weiner
Thomas Dai
Dai Junior

Any GCAers not on the list are welcome too!

I am now asking for a deposit of £50 to secure a place. Please pay via Paypal to:

hstjet@googlemail.com as a “gift”. This avoids any charges.

Tony Muldoon has kindly volunteered once again to handle the money side of things.

Once your deposit has been received – you’re in!  First come first served. Please also post your intention below.

Clearly, the situation with the pandemic is fluid. There is no absolute guarantee that transatlantic air travel will be back open by September, or even that golf courses will be open. Deposits are fully refundable up to the end of August should the pandemic make attendance impossible for whatever reason.

Cavendish is located in the lovely spa town of Buxton which will form the base for the event. There are ample boarding opportunities ranging from simple B&Bs to a new luxury 5 star hotel in the historic Crescent.

Reddish Vale is an easy 45 minute drive from Buxton through spectacular countryside so there is no need to move from base camp. Manchester International Airport is also only 45 minutes away.

In addition to the above there is the opportunity to play Cavendish on the afternoon of Saturday 4th September on the original MacKenzie routing which was altered to the current sequence soon after the course opened for play. A green fee of £25 will apply plus an optional £5 if you want to take part in the club competition.

Any queries please contact me direct on duncanjohncheslett@gmail.com
Here's to a great BUDA!

 8)  Duncan, please scratch me from the interested list, so you're down to 36...

All I'm now planning on in 2021 is traveling by car to northern Michigan summer camp for Jun-Sep.  Though I'd love a second crack at RV and to see Cavendish, but its not going to work for us.

Just to clarify; BUDA is not “full”!

The names listed in the opening post are merely those who have expressed interest in attending. Until that interest is reinforced with a £50 deposit places are open to anyone.

Whether you’re on the list or not, pay your £50 and you’re in - until capacity is reached.

Don’t dilly dally!  😉

Oh hell yes.  I'm not sure I can do the 36 at both, but I was hoping on being there for some of the conviviality if not the golf.

Well.
It’s a long story.
Still hoping to be there, but my 60th birthday celebrations which were to have taken place last month have had to be postponed. They were to have been a night at the Old Course Hotel, some golf, spa and a swanky dinner for a dozen friends. We ended up with 18 holes at Thornton and a pre-Xmas lunch, which was nice but not quite what was intended.
Current plan is still to do the St Andrews thing when we’re allowed, so that is still the number 1 plan for this year. No idea if/when that might be, so holding off booking anything else for the moment.
In even bigger news, I’ve decided that now would be a good time to retire and start smelling the roses. COVID and working from home have totally pissed me off, so, as of March, I’m going to be a pensioner. Eek! Where did the years go? So lots of time for golf from now on!
Cheers,
F.

Tony informs me that we now have 26 Pests on board with deposits paid!

Max is 36 so we’ve only got 10 places left.

I’ll update the OP with participants when I get it from Tony.

On my list of people to contact. I’ve already got Richard Atherton, secretary of the Alister MacKenzie Society and Cavendish historian on board as a speaker.

I’m holding off confirming for son and heir until nearer the time so as to give others travelling much further, especially those from overseas, a greater opportunity. We can always pop along for 1 or 2 of the days to fit-in with spots available and any UK-MacK’-Soc-CGC related matters. Time will tell.

In the new Golf World rankings published this week Cavendish has shot up 30 places to number 61 in England! 💪

Reddish Vale meanwhile, lurks at a respectable 143.

There are just shy of 1900 golf courses in England.
