Goswick this Saturday
« on: September 08, 2020, 07:41:55 AM »
Apologies for the 2nd non-topic Post in a row from me. I promise to do better!
A small, but happy, band of 4 (mostly non-gcaers) are heading to the scene of last year’s BUDA for a quick visit late Saturday afternoon.
Any Edinburgher/Borderer/South Scotland/North England folks would be very welcome to join us. Tee times after 2pm are going for £35 a head, so quite the bargain!
Hope some can make it!

I'd love to but "unfortunately" I'm playing at Scotscraig on Saturday, partly through your recommendation in a thread asometime last year.

We can wave to each other as we pass on the Queensferry Crossing! Hope you enjoy Scotscraig. Some cracking holes...

Are you not in lockdown or have you joined the exodus northwards  ;D  Scotscraig is a neat course which I am sure you will enjoy.

I've no idea what the rules are and besides they will probably change before Saturday anyway. Re Scotscraig, I have played it but 30 years ago and looking forward to going back. Also got a game at the Eden on Friday. That's my summer holiday.

I know Niall. The system is so fragmented and complicated which is why no one is following them anymore.

If you hit a your tee shot and it strikes someone in another golfer that is not in your 'bubble' are you allowed to lift your ball in order to sanitize it or do you put another ball in play and is that all with or without penalty  ;D ;D ;D

After designing (well, upcycling) and making this magnificent trophy for the winners of tomorrow’s match, I’m seriously considering a career change!

Commissions now being accepted!

So, we had a terrific day at Goswick yesterday. A perfect - windy! - day with the course in great condition. Can’t believe it’s been a year already since BUDA.
What I want to talk about though is something slightly outside of the usual design and conditioning chat and that is some of the stuff which goes around the actual golf experience.
Goswick is 101 miles door-to-door for me. A two-hour drive each way. A pleasant enough journey across Fife, around Edinburgh and down through the rolling farming landscapes and sea views of East Lothian, the Borders and Northumberland. The super-special moment comes with the sign to Goswick on the A1. Taking that turning and following the winding country lane for the couple of miles to the Course is magical. The sense of anticipation is awesome. Even more so yesterday as I had to stop at the level crossing for a train to pass. The view of the Course from there is really enticing, raising the level of excitement to fever pitch!
There’s a real value to the feeling of isolation and privacy of a Course which requires a bit of effort to get to. Machrihanish is very similar in that respect. I suppose the idea of a ‘pilgrimage’ captures the sensation best.
Cheers,
F.
