"The Hipster Compromise?"

...OR...

"A Modest Proposal not in the Swiftian Sense."

What if a potential marriage of the new distances golf balls are travelling and the movement toward non-traditional golf courses routings/layouts/rounds is a solution?

Would a 100-acre, 13-hole, 6000-yard golf course scratch the itch?

Some aspects, probably.
Other aspects, such as golfers, amateurs most likely, hitting golf balls ever further and not necessarily with accuracy or care and attention, and such shots landing off the course and striking innocent others  who happen to be adjacent to the course at the time, well probably not ...

It might scratch the itch, and get it infected.

Unless the TOUR is ready for 13-hole tournament rounds, this isn't going to help that segment, and who else really needs it?

The whole point is less holes on a smaller footprint can accommodate the required buffers. Have we seen an uptick in injuries on the golf course that is not otherwise caused by other factors?

K -
I thought you were going to suggest a new course in Williamsburg.
Metal spikes only. 43 inch drivers. Walk-and-carry mandatory. Jones bags preferred, beards optional.  The halfway house is an espresso bar and the 'library' has actual books. Try their famous Beyond Beef burger, with Curry Mac & Cheese on the side.
P.S. there is a dormie house in Chelsea, and (for members) a 'crow's nest' in the East Village.

That is why I started wearing shatter proof lenses when I play.  Had a very close call with someone else's drive right grazing my neck when I was recovering from being hit in the eye with a baseball.

Just the name of the post got my interest. "The Hipster Compromise"

Do I smoke weed or grow it?

Will bell bottoms and long hair ever come back?

Will the ground game and knickers return?

Conjured up so many images , rave on Kyle!

The cardigan, Archie -- the cardigan is poised for a big comeback, along with the chequered bell bottom pant. Just think Bogey Hendren or Mike Cirba, in the mid 70s.

+ 1    Peter, or plus 4's  ;)

we know the tour ball gets it done without lawsuits, now we need a young leader of the movement who can beat the others and loves GCA

I thought it was gonna be bryson when he hit the tour wearing stuff like this, but then he went beefcake and abandoned the hipster gear...

A 12 hole course or even a six hole loop, with half par holes, a predominance of par threes (varied markedly in distance from 60y to 225y) would address lots of concerns facing golf today.

Smaller Footprint / Cheaper initial land acquisition
Cheaper construction than 18 (hopefully!)
Design that rewards accuracy more than length
Faster rounds
Hopefully more golfers walking and less riding
Potentially less intimidating to newer / less skilled golfers if it's shorter / more manageable
Less cost to mow
Less occasions where driver is used
Less water / chemicals / mowing

Nothing is stopping a designer (or an admittedly brave client) from having such a layout, potentially including the occasional alternate teeing ground, allowing the use of a much longer hole / par 5. The Thomas course within a course approach in other words. Shares some similarity with the Carthage Club...
