Do you miss the fans?

When Justin Thomas made that 50 footer on the first playoff hole last week, I waited for the roar. The only one came from Justin himself. I never thought I'd say it but I miss the fans.

Don't miss them a bit, nor the stands etc. Better without them.
You get to see more of the course and shot situations.

Less signage, scoreboards, etc would be good too.

Better views of golf courses. Players need to play the courses better, as fans are not around to impede bad shots and find wayward strikes. Concur with appreciation of absence of collateral commentary and rogue trends.

I think it takes away some of the advantage the biggest names enjoy, for now if you are matched with Tiger on Sunday in the final group, what additional stress do you have?  It is like a practice round atmosphere. If I'm a top player and used to playing with big crowds at big events I want to feed off the fans where my competitors will feel the weight of the pressure due to it.

As a matter of my enjoyment, I don't miss them at all... but the gate and concessions and $merch they provide is missed by the local beneficiaries; so my opinion is meaningless.

I wonder if the lack of fans puts Tiger at a slight disadvantage than when he played with fans ? I'm sure all the players feed off the fans but Tiger had more to feed off. Also when he was in his pomp, the whole world stopped for Tiger but were much less respectful for playing partners and even groups in front who had to suffer the consequences of being near.

The little bit I've watched threw me off: it was some middle ground between golf and Golf, between great players hitting shots and tour players competing against each-other, between engaging with the course for one's own best score and striving against par to shoot the lowest score in the field. The fans accentuate the latter in every case, making it more of a 'sport' than a 'game'. I think I miss the sport a little bit.

Thanks for the link. I've lost a step or two since 2013. Now that I have retired to Florida I can't tell you how I yearn for just a few minutes without hearing a leaf blower. The noise of lawn maintenance is a never ending spike being drilled into my brain.

While I hope things somewhat normalize in the near future allowing the Masters to be played with patrons in attendance, I would absolutely love to see ANGC sans spectators.

No.  It's purer golf.  You can see how the course lays on the land.  You also see guys get into deep trouble when the gallery isn't in the way to stop their shots from going way rogue.  In sum, it's better on TV without the fans.
