The most recent, salient point in this thread, was Happy Hockey's mention of courses that are important to the list-maker. For me, access is my defining term for what makes golf brilliant, and access as defined by ethnicity, and disABILITY, and proximity, along with other qualifications, must be explored and codified.

I was prepared to begin a thread titled Is this list sacrosanct? I then searched and found this other thread (which I appear to have initiated) and ... problem solved.

Do courses appear on the list that might be argued as unfit for inclusion? I propose The Dunes Club in South Carolina. I like the course, I like finding places where RTJSR did good work, but I don't find Dunes to correspond to what is written under 147 Custodians (it checks in at #142.)

The Dunes has some interesting holes, I'll admit, but it lacks much of what is touted in the introductory paragraphs on that page. Is it the best course in Myrtle Beach? Perhaps. Did it check two boxes (we need an RTJSR course and We need a Myrtle Beach course)? Perhaps.

Nearly every hole requires a forced carry to the green or off the tee. There are some openings, but they are narrow, and the steep slope does not allow for the running shot to effectively come off.

If an RTJSR course is needed for the list, come to Crag Burn in western New York. Many fewer forced carries (5, 7, 14, 17) much more amenable to the bump and run, and all this on a flat piece of property. As for diversity, it's all over the place. Balance in doglegged holes (7 move left, 5 move right) Par three holes range in distance from shortish (17) to long (7) with two fun, midrange ones thrown in at 5 and 12.

If this is one man's list, let it be thus. If it is meant to offer up discussion with reliable, diligent contrariness, let this thread continue.
