What a great golf trip

Sounds like the huge amount of play is beating Rustic up quite a bit?

Of course how we rate the courses we play is completely personal. But I have to take issue with 2 points. First, the first hole at PB is a fine opening hole, but compared to #1 at Machrihanish, 1 at Spanish Bay, 1 at White Bear, 1 at Elie (OK I like the periscope)- I think it's a stretch to call it the best opening hole. Second, Pasatiempo is a no-go? Isn't a good walk? The greens are not interesting? You must have played on a bad day. Especially after Jim Urbina's work, I think it is a magnificent gem with some truly great holes. Of course there's 16, but 18 is an unusual and challenging par 3; 11 is the inland version of 8 at PB; 10 is just a terrific monster. But of course we like what we like, and your rota was super!
So much golf to play, so little time....

Mark,

In reference to the first at Pebble I have not played any of the courses you mention. I seem to prefer a first hole that creates an artificial sense of self importance. I got that same feeling at two other places. The Old Course and Hulman Links. It didn't end well for me at Hulman.

I've just had a very interesting and in-depth conversation with myself about why I hate Pasa more deeply than any course I have ever played. It is the one course in the world that I hope never to again fall victim to the pressures of friendship and return. It hurts me like a long ago lover who has awaken from a coma hotter than every but can't remember my name. Click on this link and ask yourself who really loves this course. Spoiler alert. Pretentious xenophobic fat shaming duplicitous lecturing will ensue.

I was tempted to ask how you accessed that rota but of course would never do so.

I, too, like the starter at Pebble -- a nice, "gentle handshake" that takes you out of the village and toward the ocean holes. Always heard so many negative things and then, when I finally got there, I was overwhelmed with how cool it all was.

Could somehow be better, I'm sure, but I loved it just the same.
