Really put a smile on my face as this hole was the closest I have ever been to a hole in one. It was 1999 and I used a rental set of Ping I3's with graphite shafts and connected with a doctor from Chicago coincidentally and his teenage son. I was playing from the back tees, why I have no idea as I was maybe a 10 at the time. I remember this hole at that time was 203 and there was breeze against slightly and off the right. I took a 4 iron to make sure I made it over the chasm. The pin was basically right below the ridge in the center of the green. I hit it very solid with a slower swing as the graphite shafts added some whip and by now I realized I needed to slow my swing down. I was maybe 5 feet right of the pin and very high as the wind held it up as well. It didn't even use the ridge but fell softly left back to the hole and was finally settled maybe 3 inches from the cup. It is a great downhill view regardless of your shot, but this hole gave a special picturesque memory to me.
I was thrilled! The Dr. and his son gave me some high fives, but when you have never had a hole in one you tend to remember the next closest thing, while anticlimactic and unimpressive to most who have had one, for me the thrill is still there.
