Some excellent video with flyovers and Rory’s comments.
(PS He uses a 2-Iron for his second shot layup !)

Who did the re-design of the 7th and 8th holes there? They look fantastic! My compliments to the chef! Errrrr................designer. With the way the 7th butts up against the sand dune overlooking the Irish sea, it appears as if that hole had been there all along, as Rory exclaimed.

Speaking of Mr. McIlroy, I've really been impressed with how he's matured over the past few years and the way he conducts and carries himself - both on and off the course. When he first burst on to the scene he came across as this little snotty-nosed brat from across the pond who thought he was untouchable and above the rest of the golfing world. He's since learned humility and is good about treating those he encounters with kindness, empathy and respect. I really enjoy listening to him in interviews and am impressed with his knowledge and appreciation of golf course architecture. I can see him getting involved in that aspect of the game after his playing does are done or even during his playing days, seeing how long these guys go now on the Champions Tour.

Rory's now my favorite active professional golfer. I went from loathing to loving him and will be cheering him on to complete the grand slam at Augusta next month.

Holes look very good!  And a great job by Rory.
One question--Rory says that the new 8th hole is better than the old 8th.  I thought they eliminated #17 and 18, and added these holes into the middle of the course.  If true, the old #8 would still be there--maybe renumbered #10.  No?

Old 7 is now 9; old 8 is 10.  I agree that the two new holes are superior to what they replaced in the order, and though old 17 and 18 were good finishing holes, the new routing is more cohesive on superior ground.  I hope that they get a bit of weather for the Open.  It should be a great show.

Old #16, now #18, will be a great finishing hole--much better than the old #18 which is gone.
