Lou, Yes, you do talk too much, but that's why we love to see ya show up to play golf!
God, the group can't be that bored! I know I should have become an engineer.
Really, does anyone really go out to the course with a fixed time in mind to play whatever # of holes that allows? I guess I might if I lived or worked a few minutes for the course and just wanted a little practice or fresh air.
As to the points raised by Kalen and Sean, I'm a big believer that when you're in Rome ........ A mate and I played our last round after our public transportation Buda (never again) at a small club near London (Denham). As we were readying to tee off, two elderly couples pushing trollies, each with a sort of Spaniel on a leash, approached the area. We thought of asking if the'd like to go through, but decided that we'd loose them in a hole or two.
After playing three or four holes and feeling their peering eyes on our backs, we asked them to go through which they did courteously, but without much talk. They were playing proper foursomes- when the men teed off, the women would already be nearing the landing zone and vice versa. Wisely, the club had short cuts that allowed walks to the next shots.
They probably finished three or more holes ahead of us. We played in around three hours, cleaned up in the locker room, and had a sandwich in a beer. When we left to get a cab, probably close to an hour after we finished, the two couples were still at the bar with half-full glasses.
Many years later, as we finish our three hour rounds, slam the trunk of our cars, and race to our next destination trying to see how much we can cram in into a day, I have to wonder what we might be missing.
