I think the tree remarks are just indicative of the general though not universal dislike of trees on golf courses that dominates the GCA view. Trees could conceivably come into play on 4, 10, 11, 14, 17. But it could also be argued that shots on 4 and 17 that hit trees weren't really in play by that time.  The tee shots on 11 and 14 are prey to the dreaded arboreal menaces.

I think that 11 would be massively improved by tree removal down the right off the tee and 9 would also be enhanced. I also think the quality of the sward on the 8th green will improve now the trees at the back have been thinned. I do worry about the loss of the trees left on 14 as this will cause issues for the greenkeeper's sheds. On the whole though you are correct that the trees do not really effect play at Golspie.

I also recall the area in front of 10 as been a boggy wet area on my first play in the 80's.

I said the look of the course, not how it plays.  Quite deliberately.  I think almost universally being able to see more of the rest of the course is a good thing for the way a course looks.


From my experiences at BUDA, however, I'dd add 9 to the list where trees can come into play.  I don't thnk, however, that trees in play are a problem at Golspie.  Just that the course could look better with fewer trees in the heathland part of the course.  Old pictures of the Surrey heathlands look spectacular, far better than the tree lined versions we now see.

I want to thank Lynn  for the kindest possible description of the position I left him in on the 10th while playing foursomes. as for his wish to have played the 12th 13th and 14th in a different wind, well today that wind showed up and at gale  force.  I played the first fourteen with two other seniors this morning and our drives on 12 and 13 with forty mile an hour winds were nearing the 260 yard point.  Some of our longer hitters might have reached these greens .  The challenge would have been keeping the ball from rolling off the right side of the fairway.


Very proud of the fact I played all 14 with one ball.


I'm glad we didn't have to play today's golf course.
