The irons I was fit for today have a 44 degree pitching wedge and a 20.5 degree 4 iron. Couple that with lighter shafts that my body can handle there is 15 yard difference in my old 7 iron and my new. The fitter told me technology hasn't changed too much in the 7 years since you were fit, but your body has. They have reduced spin rates through the entire set. Whether we like it or not, if they can build a set where the club with a 4 on the bottom goes 200 yards for a double fused 58 year old whose not been playing well, what do you think the young fit strong pros are going to do with this. Sure it is out of control to our eyes, but I enjoy watching it on TV viewers and playing. It is what it is.
