I've played CPC and walked it a second time. Given 10 plays to split I'm headed to The National 9 times.

Let the posing begin.

Tim, as you well know, I would only play the restored, original ANGC, and don’t even get me started on Cypress and those trees.

Mike-This is more of a "dare to dream" question for those that have played neither. Don't take it personal man. :) ;D

Very tough question. As one who does not have the ability to play great private courses, it has to be ANGC. I just don't have enough knowledge of CPC to be starstruck enough to play it over Augusta National.

CPC for me, but Augusta is the only place, if invited, I would move heaven and hell to be there in 48 hours.

If I had just one round left. Has to be Kilspindie as it is my favourite course. But between the two I think Augusta just to see how it plays.

I couldn't split them.

ANGC & CPC are the two invitations that my wife has given me carte blanche to take without any condition. Even if that means hanging up the phone having received a last-minute call, packing a bag and getting a taxi straight to Sydney Airport.

From my driveway to CPC is 11,935km, to Magnolia Lane is 15,164km...

If I absolutely had to choose... ANGC, as then I could re-live it on TV every April.

Tough choice, having grown up in the shadow of one, and having snuck on to play portions of both.(40 and 26 years ago hopefully the statute of limitations has passed)

Cypress- as I think Augusta has outgrown me and I couldn't go there and play it from the member tees(vast difference between the two tees)

In the spirit of the question asked, it has to be Augusta National.

I've been there; I know its nuanced details; it's history is modern golf's history, launched by the great golfer of the pre-modern era. Take away Augusta National and what golf is changes for me; might not be as precious, mythic or singular in the imagination.

No slight on Cypress Point, but remove it and there are other plum venues with singular courses; history and the ethos don't change too much for me.

Though that is enough for my choice, I also think that to some extent, God (or the like) gets a co-design credit for the impressiveness of Cypress, while by comparison, Augusta National is entirely a conjured idea made by the mind of man... and I kind of like that better in the design realm.

...If I gave an honest "what I want" answer I would not play either, I'd play a course I've played, that I've enjoyed, where I have memories and really brings out my best game...among the good ones that fit that bill, it would be Yale or Fishers or CC of Fairfield.

CPC without a doubt.

CPC. I know because I built an entire trip around the possibility of playing it, and the invite was confirmed only while we were on our way.

But I agree with VK. I am pretty sure I would play 18 in the morning at Pine Needles and 18 in the afternoon at Mid Pines.

Unlike fancy-pants Ira, I only know Cypress from reading 'The Match'. So I may be doing it a disservice when I relegate it to the 2nd spot and pick Augusta. (Does someone know when the 'ideal' time/date to play it is -- when it is as dry and firm as it gets?) I think Jack N said he now plays it from the members tees, at 6150 yards or so -- and that seems just the perfect length to be able to experience the qualities of the course. I'm already looking forward to playing the 10th -- goodness I just love the look of that hole.

I see that one poster picked ANGC so he could relive his round by watching it on TV every April. What possible scenario exists where you are given one round to play and never to play again that doesn't involve death? The best I can come up with is prison without the possibility of parole. How well does Jim Nantz play in Joliet?

I thought the question posed an interesting dilemma with Mackenzie being the architect of record of both courses. No slight intended to Bobby Jones or Marion Hollins. ;D  I would pick Cypress and won’t hesitate in saying that the background/site is a factor. Further the 16th hole at Cypress tugs at me more than any single hole at Augusta. I don’t know if having walked Augusta for a few practice rounds influences that decision but probably has at least a subliminal effect. I especially enjoyed V. Kmetz’s reply and as a Raynor fan appreciate his substitute picks. :)

ANGC

My family is from the area and most of my relatives are buried in nearby Westover Cemetery.  So I would play ANGC, then go join them at Westover.

Good one!  I'm actually from Joliet, Illinois  ;D

Stateville prison and Joliet Jake are what we are known for.  My baseball coach at the Univ. of Iowa always ticked me off when he said, "Yeah Schley when I came and scouted you in ..... Joliet... yeah....... The best part of that place is in the rear view mirror."

I was thinking.......... well anyway can laugh at it now.

CPC. I’ve walked ANGC several times so that’d be good enough to get a sense of the property, which despite some pics and reading I don’t have at CPC.

Only way I could compare the two in determining which I would choose is if Augusta was in Masters condition.  Everything in perfect shape, greens pure, all the flowers in bloom, etc.  Cypress has much prettier views throughout, however I'd choose Augusta if I could play it right before or after the Masters.

ANGC.  I've driven past magnolia lane and just seeing the little flower bed logo at the end of the road got my heart racing.
