...and commissioned our ideal golf course, would we welcome outside play?

Pietro

I don't know about we, but I would.  That said, it would be much more like the Muirfield model rather visitors welcome at any time.  That is, assuming I could afford the subs and be willing to pay the subs.

Ciao

Agreed, the outside revenue would keep dues down.  It'll have to  be a terrific course to attract outside play.  Think Sand Hills etc

Sugarloaf Mtn in Florida would have been the ideal course. Such a perfect spot and site for a winter club. 100+ ft of elevation change in florida yet an enjoyable walk.

Yes, but Bill, that is twenty-odd years ago. You'd think he was there until yesterday from some of the crap you read about the place...

Correction: it is _thirty-four_ years since Captain Hanmer retired. That is basically 25 per cent of Muirfield's entire history....

Wow, is that right?  I spent an hour with him on my first visit there in 1982, I didn't remember he had retired by the time I went back again.

He seemed to enjoy that people were afraid of him, but he wasn't so bad.  He said he was being nice to me because his dog seemed to like me.  He showed me a clutter of books and other gifts on his desk, all sent by visitors attempting to curry favor, and asked if I wanted any of it.  I've known worse people in the golf business, that's for sure.

Have you ever considered writing a memoir?

Cue the access-seeking types pouring bacon grease on their pants before they show up to Fillintheblank CC.
