What are the stakes? We should play for money.

I think only the outsiders should be allowed to wager, lil action.  How would we be certain someone wasn't throwing the match?

$100 entry fee. Winner gets 50%. Runner up gets 10%. GCA (Ran) gets 40% from Midwest GCA group.

I can't. How about we play for the Midwest GCA Chalice?

Ask Ben Hogan. Playing for your name on a trophy isn't gambling. Two completely different kinds of pressure.

Jim Colton (Chicago) texted me that he would like to participate, if the field is not already full.

Since we are still getting quite a few interested participants, I figure we can just keep the entry open and come up with some creative bracketeering when the time comes.  I do think it would be best to play for some sort of award instead of $$$, but of course feel free to play any sort of money game with your opponent.  If anyone has any ideas on what we could play for let me know....we could always play for one of these sweet gca polos!  http://golfclubatlas.com/best-of-golf-equipment-shirts/

I do like the idea of everyone chipping in not only for the award, but also kick a little back to gca.com courtesy of the MW knockout participants.  Also, if Tom Doak is serious about playing a match at CGC, it may present an opportunity for participants to bid on playing against him with that money going to a worthwhile charity.

Also, I see no issues with any former GCA members participating.

When it comes time to make the bracket, instead of being completely random I will check to see if anyone is playing in other GCA events as it would make sense to play their knockout matches then as well.

Again any ideas/suggestions/criticisms are welcome.

On edit, Chicago, IL.

Hi James:

If we were to play Chicago Golf Club it would be as the guest of a member kind enough to host us.

Auctioning off such an opportunity would be a bit gauche.

Besides that, I would have a big local-knowledge advantage at Chicago Golf.

Tom - point taken.  I couldn't tell if you were serious about playing your match there or not.  I was just trying to figure out a fair way to schedule your opponent.  When it comes time to make the bracket, I will schedule your match based on what location you are based out of.

I would like to see Doak vs Jkava at a Fazio or Nicklaus track in round 1.  I think Sycamore Hills is close to halfway!

Please make my pairing randomly, after dividing the field into two or four geographic sections.

I suspect it is likely that my opponent(s) will get to play on a better than average course, if they want to let me handle the arrangements, but it should be about luck of the draw.

Courses in Michigan that I haven't played and will suggest as possible locations:

Lakewood Shores (The Gailes)
Orchard Lake
Wushkowan Players Club
Muskegon CC
Angels Crossing
Stoatin Brae
Ionia [if it hasn't closed]

Of course, I'm also going to Korea in April and Vietnam in May, and would be happy to play my first match over there if my opponent fancies a traveling game.

Doak is more of a partner than an opponent to me. Anyways I have retired from GCA events for the time being. I've stepped on one too many dicks in my life to be a second class citizen.

If there is room still I would enjoy playing. I am from Cleveland.
I will be gone for three weeks end of April till mid May.  Would be happy to play anyone if they are going to be in South Africa at that time frame...
Thanks for setting this up!

Couldn't this be treated as an official, co-sanctioned BuddyUp! event?

Count me in if you still have room.  I'm a bogey golfer so I'll be an easy victory for somebody :)

I live in Vicksburg MI, home of Angels Crossing.  The course is in the best shape that it has ever been and they now have the course playing fast and firm.  I hope a few matches can be played there.... you will not be disappointed.

The plan is to randomly draw pairings based on location early next week.....so there's still time to sign up if you want to play.  If you haven't already, let me know where you're based out of.... if you don't want it posted here send me a PM or email jamesdreese at gmail dot com.

Thanks!
