New Highly Rated Courses You Plan to Play in 2017
« on: February 01, 2017, 03:09:46 PM »
Being a member at a private golf club doesn't afford me the luxury of being able to play a variety of courses outside of it, but here is a list of new courses I plan to play in 2017.

1. Waldorf Astoria Golf Club (Orlando, FL)
2. Bandon Dunes (Pacific Dunes and Old MacDonald)
3. Sand Valley Golf Resort (Nekoosa, WI)
4. Forest Dunes Golf Club - The Loop (Roscommon, MI)
5. Marquette Golf Club - Greywalls (Marquette, MI)

There are one or two others I hope to get on, depending on my travels, but these are the 'for sure' courses in 2017. What is on everyone else's hit or wish list this year?

Highly rated based on which list?

Highly Rated is a very loose description. Sand Valley, for instance, is a brand new course that hasn't been rated, yet it is highly anticipated by many in the golf industry and golfing public. No one should feel confined to listing only courses in Golf Digest or Golf Magazine's Top 100 or 200 list. It's really whatever you feel those here would appreciate playing themselves if they already haven't.

My own 2017 golf plans involve getting on GolfNow to play some new munis.

Buddy Up!!! is spontaneous. The last outing was at Swope Memorial where I spotted a lone individual on the first tee and asked he would like our company, me and Cirba no less, and low and behold he was playing hickories. I'm the winner in these instances of grace and generosity.

I'll be making several trips to Asia in 2017.  I will see all of the courses in Hong Kong at the end of February, including the new Jockey Club courses; I'll see Santa Elena in The Philippines and Mangilao in Guam in early March; I'll probably see Tiger Beach and The Point in China and South Cape in Korea in April; and I'll see all of the best new courses in Vietnam in May.  I don't know if any of them will be as good as Sand Valley or The Loop, but I'll keep an open mind going in.

I'm looking forward to seeing some of the great links courses on the Lancashire coast this summer, Formby in particular, but the course I'm really excited about playing for the first this year is Pine Barrens at World Woods.

Only plan to play 'new highly rated courses' is Streamsong (Black included) at the end of the season.

Everything else will be gravy.

Nice list! I'm hoping to squeeze Lost Dunes in somewhere on the calendar, but it could end up being a 2018 destination.

Planning to do a 2 day trip with an overnight in Kalamazoo to visit Bells - Lost Dunes, Point O' Woods and Stoatin Brae. Let me know if you're interested in joining.

John,

The really bad economic conditions in Argentina had us pause construction of the back 9. We don´t get much play from members yet and most are happy playing the front 9 twice. Hoping to start again next season if the economy continues to look like it will pick up.

What I can tell you is the front 9 has been extremely well received by players of all levels. And I have reasons to believe the back 9 will be better, if less dramatic.

Thanks, hope you can! And in this case it will be walk down 18. Way down. As in 240 feet vertical down 18.
