I sort of forgot I even had these in my files, and was recently reminded of it by a Philly area GCA lurker (not THE Lurker!).  Some of these are buried in old threads, but here are all nine in one spot.

Ah, back in the days when newspapers seemed to be the prime way of obtaining news!

Joe,

These are wonderful. Quite interesting that the list of members in the article shows that Tilly is no longer a member of Belfield at this time but that his dad, B.C., still is. They were both founding members of the club.

What club(s) was Tilly playing out of then in 1908?

Nice articles but a bit frustrating from the standpoint of determining architectural attribution.   The only one clearly stated on a quick perusal was Willie Tucker at Bala.

Also interesting to note that George C. Thomas, Jr. was not among those listed as "experts" in golf at Whitemarsh Valley.

He was a member of Philly Cricket then. Re-reading what I wrote I meant that the surprise to me wasn't that Tilly was no longer at Belfield, but that his dad was. I believe Tilly left Belfield around the turn of the century. That he played often with his father, even to the extent that B.C. even entered a few of the same tournaments that his son did, I always took it for granted that he went as a member where his son did...

So this 1908 series is a smaller version of the bigger J.E. Ford series in the mid-20's in the same paper.

It begs the question if the North American had any other series say between 1908 and the mid 20's or even before 1908.  But currently the North American is only available via microfilm and in very few places.  Thankfully the Free Library of Philly has the entire run but it can take a weekend cranking the wheel on the reader just to browse thru 6 months of a paper.
