Whirlwind Tour of GCA Highlights in Asia - what am I missing?
« on: December 24, 2015, 05:58:04 AM »
I'm planning a pop in pop out kind of tour aimed at visiting some of the courses people are talking about and serious top 100 contenders. Below is the proposed agenda, any advice, tips, courses I have to see etc that are not on the list? Restriction would be that I can't add other countries and or more flights.

 • Amsterdam - Bangkok: Ayodhya Links
 • Bangkok - Kunming: Spring City and Stone Forest
 • Kunming - Haikou: Mission Hills Tour (maybe play one or two courses (which should I play?), Shanqin Bay and lastly the Dunes Shenzhou Peninsula GC.
 • Sanya - Hong Kong: quick visit, no golf.
 • Hong Kong - Jeju: Nine Bridges
 • Jeju - Sacheon: South Cape Owners Club
 • Sacheon - Seoul: Anyang
 • Seoul - Osaka: Naruo, Hirono, Kawana and Tokyo. (Kasumigaseki will be closed for renovation).
 • Back home.
Things like logistics can be ignored. I know how tough this is having already worked it all out. Also of course I know it's better to go to one country and spend a month there. Time constraints, holiday time and priorities keep me from doing it the "ideal" way. It's my first ever trip in this direction and there will be some down time to take in moments of culture but not enough.

Since Asia is not the most talked about destination on GCA I'm guessing a lot of the wisdom is hiding with lurkers and non-frequent posters here so please share anything relevant. Thanks!

At the Haikou Mission Hills, stick to the black stone, and lava fields.. Playing the 9 holes they have under the lights might interest some as well

It may be worth your while to fly from Bangkok to Phuket to play Red Mountain.

Re: Mission Hills Haikou: I agree with Jaeger, play Blackstone and Lava Fields.

If possible spend a night at Kawana and play it a couple of days.  It is a combination of setting and architecture that rivals any other spot I have visited.

DD:

Spring City is not part of the top 100 conversation. Don't play it because of an old list.
Play the par three course at MH Haikou and the two that Jaeger recommended.

I'd consider playing Clearwater Bay or HKGC in Hong Kong for the experience. HK is a lot easier than China.
Can't give you any help in Korea / Japan but will be interested in your views!

Merry Xmas.

Thanks for the advice!

I just added The Bluffs in Vietnam.

Michael, I won't be able to squeeze in a round in Hong Kong. I'm really just passing through.

The rest is all but arranged and fitting more in is not practical I don't think.

Happy New Year everyone!
