Thanks for another terrific tour, Sven.

Pretty sure the 1916 photo captioned "EVAN-GARDNER MATCH - ELEVENTH GREEN" is actually of the original 13th green.

Also, some of the other numbers are wrong/confusing. The routing for the 1916 amateur was different than currently.  The front nine went 1, 2, 6, 7, 4, 5, 3, 8, 9.   Not sure which you intend to follow. [You also have two photos of the same green (which is currently the 6th.) One magazine called it the 3th (which it was at the time), but another magazine called it the 4th.]

Thanks again for your efforts.

Golf history can be quite interesting if you just let your favorite legends go and allow the truth to take you where it will.

David:

I realized the 4/7 confusion after I put the photos up.  Thanks for pointing out the other issues.

I'll try to move stuff around so it matches up with the 1930 routing I've included as the lead in to each post.

I wholeheartedly agree with David Moriarty ' s recommendations regarding re-numbering as well as his appreciation for your efforts Sven.  Thanks!

I really like that pic of the original 13th...it looks remarkably like some of the early photos of Cobb's Creek GC.  I'll IM you regarding some other early photos.

That picture of old #13 is the exact site where I spent many hours every summer day for 12 straight years, unless I was asleep in my car.

These photographs are awesome.  My grandfather happened to grow up at Merion as a boy in the 1920s and was club champion there in 1933.  His Princeton golf teammate and tournament travel companion Gene Homans was the man who lost to Jones in the final match in 1930, and my grandfather was one of the many there watching his friend on that historic day.

An incredible place with great history.  I still have my grandfather's Merion trophies, which I'll probably donate to the club's history room one day.

Thanks for posting these great pictures.
