Already reported as 3 1/2 to 1 1/2 in favor of north. 10 players, 9 from the NW, Pete Lavallee the only Californian to risk travelling too far north. Need to get an act together.

our posts crossed in cyberspace....a mere few seconds apart!!

Go North!!! :)

After today's play at Tokatee the North has a 6 to 3 lead, so a comeback by the South is possible tomorrow at Eugene CC. The highlight of the day was Conners piped 3 iron to 3 feet for eagle on 16. The weather has been great with the forecast 1.5" of rain nowhere to be found.

Definitely the best Ted Robinson course I've played, I certainly wouldn't have guessed him if I was going in blind. Good mix of long and short holes with both hard right and left doglegs. Good variety in the par 3 's and judicious use of water. The goal post trees on the 5th were cool. The pro is named Dan King and they sell tie dyed tshirts in the pro shop. They also make a great burger. All in all a fun course in a beautiful setting. Conditions were outstanding for this time of year.

I love the different environments: meadow, forest, wetland.  Probably my brother's favorite course in Oregon outside Bandon.

Here is final recap of the Eugene KP. Since there were 8 Oregonians 1 Washtington resident and a San Diegan teams were drawn by the fact that 3 players were born in Ca. One resides there and resides in Roseburg which was the furthest south.

South:
Pete Lavallee
Smile doc
Conner Dougherty
Mike Essig
Morris Hogan

North:
Pete Pittock
Mike Hogan
Jim Atkisson
Garland Bayley
Bruce Earlandson

The north was leading going into the final round at Eugene CC 6-3. Buoyed by a fine dinner and architectural presentation by superintendent Chris Gaughan the night before the South knew they would have to win all 5 matches to keep Dan King's putter. Despite strong protests from Jim he took on the best player on his home course and pulled out the victory, the best the south could hope for now was a hard fought draw. Group two both got wins for the south. Capt. Pete got a 3&2 win over Garland so it was up to new comer Morris to get a win. All Square coming into the 18th Morris narrowly missed his par but had a stroke. New comer Bruce's chances looked bleak as he was bunkered front right with the pin back left. He played a great shot off the downslope to 10 feet. He then calmly drained the putt, the only one he made all day! The draw gave the edge to the north 7.5 to 6.5.

The real winner today read ECC, the course was in great shape. Far and away the best RTJ Sr. course I've played the greens are the star. There are a variety of shapes and sizes all with significant undulation. The fairway contouring is dramatic and tree management is excellent. The famous water hazards are not in your face and you really need to hit a poor shot to find one. The drainage installed by Chris kept the fairways nice and dry despite the significant rainfall they have received so far his year.

A special note of thanks to Gray for organizing the event. Three rounds of golf, one at the #86 ranked course and two dinners for $150!!! The forecast for 1.5" of rain was way off as we had a 15 minute light shower each day. A truely great event, we really need gca'ers to step up to the plate and play in this event. Plans are underway for next years KP which will again be held in March, so block out your calendar for next year!

Hopefully next years KP will be in SoCal which would draw more fair weather golfers.
I love golf, the fightin irish, and beautiful women depending on the season and availability.

I doubt there will ever be another KP in So Cal, unless you don't mind playing in a twosome!

Actually, there were three from Washington, a lot of transplanted Californians, a long time Californian, and a token Oregonian or two.
You transplants must know that until you chainsaw carve bear statues as toilet roll holders, and stack firewood with all the precision of a brain surgeon, you will remain transplants.

I stand corrected! Still it would have been me against 9 if we went by a strick north south battle. Are the Ca. golfers afraid they will melt in the rain?!

Nobody goes there anymore, it's too crowded.

I mentioned this in another thread...but Spokane could be a candidate.

Including a round at the world famous Antler Springs....a more finer match play course I don't believe I have played!!

Small greens, the printed yardage on the card is completely wrong, a few absurd holes, iffy conditioning, plenty of places to get in trouble, many driveable par 4s and even a driveable par 5 to boot ;)

P.S.  And I forgot to mention its on a very undulating piece of land, lots of uphill, sidehill, and downhill shots...with a few interesting forced carries.

Garland,

If I still lived in Spokane, I certainly would be tempted....but would feel hesitant trying to do it remotely...

However, when thinking more about this, March is a very iffy time for that area.  You could have decent conditions, but more than likely there will be a few inches to a foot of snow on the ground.  May would be a totally different story and  easily doable.

P.S If an official KP didn't work out, we could try something in the late summer for PNW folks.  Its glorious everywhere in them parts that time of year.

Bravo to the organizer of this event Dr. William Gray Grieve (I think you need some roman numerals after your name.)  He stepped up when no one else would, and everything was outstanding.  Sure, the weather cooperated nicely, but the golf and company would have remained the same no matter if the weather had been less accommodating.

Eugene CC was an excellent and demanding track.

Tokatee was a surprise.  I knew nothing about it, and it was a nice track in an absolutely gorgeous mountain valley.  As Conner D. and I discussed, whomever thought to put a golf course in this location was nuts, but I thank them for doing so.

The fact that Dr. Grieve pulled this off - three rounds of golf and two dinners with basically unlimited excellent wine or craft brews - for $150 is crazy.  (Thank you for raiding your wine cellar on our behalf.)

As stated below, tentatively it looks like KP 2017 is going to be back at Bandon in March.  Is that enough to get people to travel?

A very big thank you to Grey Grieve, and his trustworthy student assistant Conner, for a great, cheap, get-together.
I never expected the deposit to cover everything. Emerald Valley was in very good condition for this time of year.
Greens were true and fast. A shout-out to Jim Adkisson was a smooth 3-0. If he had been on the south side, they would have won.

Since Dan King is the only Californian to step up to the plate and deliver in trh last several years, it makes sense (to me) for Grey to make some preliminary planning at Bandon, as reservations fill up the resort a year in advance. And he has possession of the trophy, which still is in operating condition.

Had a great time in my inaugural KP...Gray is a fabulous host and a great person to spend 3 hours and 20 minutes playing as a deuce yesterday...I truly enjoyed meeting all of the KP characters that I had not previously known...Pete L., Conner, Morris, Mike E. and Hogan...Looking forward to seeing y'all again either next year or sooner...

Hogan... jim.adkisson@abcfirex.com  email me...lets hook up for 18 at OGA or Elkhorn Valley...

Gray...headed to Portland for any reason?  Drop me a line...will get a game somewhere fun and I will buy you a drink afterwards...

I'm all in for Bandon in '17...(unless someone else steps up to the plate soon to make other plans)

Come on Kalen, you attended KP in June in Canada. March is not required. April is more common.
