If there's a course on the planet that I'm more keen on seeing I'm not really sure what it is at this moment...The Barnbougle/Cape Wickham combo ticket might be pretty hard to beat.  The only question is if DeVries can handle all the media attention.... 8)

The photographs of the course are gorgeous, and probably don't do the place justice. What strikes me is that the course appears to be both spectacular and low-key. The course doesn't compete with its setting, it seems to me.......

you're a lucky man ben! you need to tell us all about it and where you think it will place in the australian rankings.. I think I recall mike clayton posting that potentially only barnbougle and rmw would be above it..  What about the other course being developed there, ocean dunes?

This is exactly how I imagine it from the photos.

I posted a while back that of the many heralded new courses that I've yet to see, I was far more interested in the likes of Barnbougle, Cabot Links, Dismal Red and Cape Wickham than I was in Bandon and Streamsong. Tom stated that I named two of his lowest budget courses. So maybe there's something in that as well.

If given a great site, restricting the spend - even when not necessary - might just sometimes be the best option for a developer.

Bass Straight has some of the wildest weather on the planet. Will be curious to see how it plays in a 50mph Sou wester

John mate...I get it. You don;t think its financially viable, you think its too exy to get to and its too bloody windy. Every time a King Island / Cape Wickham thread opens you shit-can the place.

Let she how she goes after its been open a while. Remember everyone seemed to shit-can the Barnbougle idea before it opened too.

Gentlemen,
Hopefully Sean's effort to arrange a second. Boomerang will come to fruition. Notwithstanding I will get there by mid-2016. I also suspect that there will be a flotilla of grey nomads, who are 60plus and keen golfers and epicures, very happy to toddle over there and golf and dine to their hearts content with their better halves.

I had the pleasure of playing Cape Wickham today with Darius Oliver.

In brief;

1. The scale of the property is immense. Photos do not do it justice.

2. The course has been designed for the wind - there is plenty of width.

3. I'm not sure there is another golf course that calls upon as many heroic golf shots than what one finds at Cape Wickham; 1, 3, 9, 10, 11, 12, 16, 17 and 18.

how does the land there compare to barnbougle ben? looks like more of the course is set right up against the coastline and there is more scope for missing shots and hitting the ocean. what were the stand out holes out there?
