I cannot believe I have only played 1 of his courses: Bandon Dunes.

These 3 are on my short list:

Nanea
Huntsman Springs
Machrihanish Dunes

Tetherow is no mistake.  I can't believe I am reading this.  It is an incredible visual course.  The visual stimulation is unbelievable.  Your brain goes into overdrive.  One of the coolest inland designs I have seen.  Kidd is a master of deception.  Tetherow looks much harder than it is.  After one play, the scores drop significantly.  Plenty of width with great angles.  Every hole is different and exciting.  It is super firm with wall to wall fescue.  Speed slots, sideboards, backboards.....sounds like fun to me!!!  The greens are wild, but they keep them at a very manageable speed.  The course is just fun to play.  If it were a great walking course, it would be toward the very top of my list.

I have not been back since the year it opened. Since you don't mention mohawks and eyebrows, perhaps you have not had the chance to experience them.

Tetherow has been softened since the first year it was opened.  The mohawks and eyebrows were reduced and I think some greens softened.

The castle, St Andrews is often criticised for its greens. 'Dig them up' is often the course review but the course itself is a nice addition to the St. Andrews portfolio.
If you have played in Scotland and want to share your experience with other golfers I'd love to talk with you, Scottish Golf Podcast.

Yesterday, David Kidd posted the following on Facebook,

Amazing week, news broke that we had been awarded the 2nd Course at Sand Valley and I was interviewed on the Golf channel then GOLF Magazine arrived yesterday and we won Best New Course 2015.

In the last 12 months we have had 2 major projects stall in full construction and a third switch investor and decide on another golf architecture firm. Believe it or not it seemed like a rough few months then in one week.....

What projects have stalled and who switched to another architect?

I have always loved Bandon Dunes and feel there are some truly great holes of that golf course.  It is my second favorite course on the property.

The only other Kidd course I've seen is Castle, and I disliked it for many reasons.  As mentioned earlier, it is aerial golf at the home of golf, which just doesn't seem to fit in.  The course is very exposed and the holes that are on the most elevated portion of the property just don't have enough width.  You can lose a dozen golf balls out there if you're not careful.

It just wasn't a lot of fun to play and I wouldn't have any desire to play it a second time if in the area again.

I will be very interested to see the courses at Sand Valley.  The site has tremendous potential and it's just what Midwest golf needs.

I'm guessing one of them is the exciting looking project near Lisbon. The switch to another architect was likely Bushmill Dunes which went to Gil Hanse / Mark Parsinan before looking like it's gone altogether.

Joel,

Comporta Dunes in Portugal was on a go slow but I believe 9 holes have been grassed this past year, not sure when and if the rest will be completed.

Cherkley court or as its also referred to Beaverbrook Estate was partially stopped due to legal proceedings by objectors to the project, I believe a substantial ammount of work has been completed and are in the process of finishing the course over the next year.

Ally clearly outlined the situation with the Bushmills project.

Cheers

Ally and David have identified the three in question I think. David worked on Bushmills for more than ten years, but his client, Ali Hanna, died this year, not that long after planning consent was granted. Mark Parsinen got involved, and David was removed from the project in favour of Gil. But, as I wrote last week, the course now appears dead as the land is being sold to someone else.

I visited Comporta in the spring and they were close to starting grassing (it's a pretty remarkable site btw, and assuming it does eventually get finished will be a must visit for anyone going to Portugal). But the client - the Espirito Santo banking family - hit financial problems in the summer and the project was closed down.

Cherkley/Beaverbrook started construction last year, but the project has been fiercely contested by local environmentalists, and was shut down when a judicial review in the High Court overturned the local council's decision to grant planning consent. Both the council and the developers were astounded by the decision, which contradicted all the legal advice they'd received, and took the case to the Court of Appeal, which found, unanimously, in their favour earlier in the summer. Just last week the Supreme Court declined to hear an appeal, so it looks as though all is well there. Construction has been back on since the summer.

I worked on a project for DMK in Yeosu, South Korea. It isn't listed on DMK's website and hard to find info on.

Looks like Comporta Dunes in Portugal fully up and running. That’s exciting.

This is great to hear. Troia is next door and the two together will make a good double header for a visit.

I was pleasantly surprised when I visited last how well Praia d’el Rey had stood up despite lots of villa building. I wasn’t that enamoured with West Cliffs but it’s worth seeing.

Throw in Oitavos Dunes and there’ll be five good options within just over an hour’s drive of the centre of Lisbon which is a great base. Roll on international travel....

Really excited for this course to open - I saw a few photos online, which can be seen here:
