Buda 2015

Since no one else has brought it up (at least on the site), is it still pointed towards Carne in the summer?

At Buda this year, I was told Carne wants to wait another year before hosting Buda, so now it is 2016. I was told they were thinking of some inland English course(s) for 2015, but can't remember which.

My impression is that Notts and Sherwood Forest are the target hosts.

Adrian,
That's practically free. I would be glad to do that trio, but Notts/Sherwood also sounds great.

We also discussed coordinating scheduling with the Walker Cup hosted at Lytham St Annes somewhat nearby.

A great opportunity to explore the many great choices around Liverpool/Manchester

That's the North East, I'm afraid.

We haven't had the usual debate about BUDA 2015 and perhaps we should have it now.  Carne, as Garland says, would prefer 2016.  Suggestions for 2015 included Kington and North Norfolk but neither had particular champions.  I think the current favourite is Notts and another (likely SF).  James Boon is, I think, looking into that.  Adrian's idea sounds attractive, though it's a while since BUDA saw 24 participants (it seems to me that 16-20 is the norm) and I think it's important that BUDA at least be co-organised by someone who has done BUDA and gets it.
In June I will be riding the first three stages of this year's Tour de France route for charity.  630km (394 miles) in three days, with 7800m (25,600 feet) of climbing for the William Wates Memorial Trust (https://rideleloop.org/the-charity/) which supports underprivileged young people.

A Cotswold Quirk 3 day'er could always be arranged.  8- 12 is a good number.

Morning chaps,

Yes Notts was announced at Buda this year (thanks Garland for demoting it to "some inland English course")  ;D, but I did stress to everyone, though perhaps lost in the alcoholic fog of time, that I had a very busy few months ahead of me and would possibly be struggling to get anything organised as swiftly as some would like.

I've made initial enquiries at both Notts and Sherwood (certainly better than a Doak 3) Forest, who are keen to host us, though I'm having to do some shuffling with dates which means a Mon to Wed event could work best. I've also initial ideas regarding accommodation, but am struggling to match the shared self catering that was such a hit in Cornwall.

If anyone else wants to step up and organise an alternative then please feel free to do so, only please let me know as I don't want to spend time on this considering how hectic life is at present only to find we go somewhere else. Hopefully you will all understand?

I will try to take consideration of the walker Cup dates. Any initial comments welcome.

Cheers,

James

Great to hear this, James!

I'll be there and can pretty much guarantee pre and/or apres Buda games at Wellingborough and/or Luffenham Heath and/or The Northhamptonshire

I spent the first half of 1966 near Grantham, and I am a close friend of members of the three courses above, so I know the territory.

Please let me know if I need to cash in those chips....

The 2015 Walker Cup at Lytham is Sat 12th - Sun 13th September.
A circle of 1 hr from Notts/Hollinwell also takes in the likes of Beau Desert and Woodhall Spa.

I'm guessing inland opportunities for self catering are fewer than coastal ones.  I wouldn't worry about it.

There seem to be a number of small hotels in the area.  If we had a good feel on dates, then I would be happy to make initial inquiries with some hotel options. It would be good to have someone local visit prior to choosing a place (if you had time), but I can do a bit of research and contact first.

Seems Coxmoor is also right there and worth seeing, maybe pre or post Buda.  I need to consult my Confidential Guide and see what else is in the area.  Those maps are handy.

Check out Horspool on Holiday Lettings.  Sleeps 25 with an indoor pool.  Makes golf kind of secondary.

This property is already on my radar.  When I last made an enquiry, it was quite pricey.  When never knows though this far in advance....

Failing that, there are some options in the centre of Nottingham...its maybe 30 minutes from Notts. Much depends on if guys want to be in town or in the boonies.  There are loads of choices which require taxi to life.

It's only 30 minutes or so from Notts and there is a good pub within walking distance.

30 minutes from Notts seems rather further than ideal but then I guess we won't find anywhere suitable just 5 minutes away.  If we are going to have to be a bit further away than ideal, there's something to be said for being in Nottingham, where there will be a choice of pubs and restaurants.  I was at Twickenham on Saturday with two blokes who live around Mansfield.  On the basis of what they had to say I don't think staying in Mansfield is worth considering.

No, Mansfield town centre has very little to recommend it...

What about Centre Parcs? Pretty much next to Sherwood Forest, not too far from Hollinwell.

I was determined to get a Notts / Sherwood / Coxmoor / Lindrick trip together for my group in 2013... In the end, it was the lack of accommodation that made me go elsewhere (given that they don't place quite the premium on the golf that the BUDA lot do)...

Would certainly be interested in 2015 for a day or two... and will spin over to Woodhall Spa and maybe Seacroft also... But are weekends (or at least one weekend day) definitely out?

Mansfield isnt ideal, though in all honesty all we need are one or two decent pubs and somewhere to perhaps get a curry so there may be something more on the edge of Mansfield? Its not like we are likely to be going on a crawl of all the best bars and restaurants in town?

As Mark says, if we are 30 minutes away, we may as well be in Nottingham as far as accommodation and socialising are concerned but morning rush hour would mean needing to be clever when it comes to location?

Further enquiries have been made and I hope to update everyone towards the end of the week.

Cheers,

James

James,

When I lived in Mansfield I used to regularly visit "The Hutt' in Ravenshead - about 2 minutes from Notts G.C.

Has a nice country pub feel to it - or at least it did..... it has been nearly 10 years.
