Interesting Promo--Farm Links, AL
« on: August 12, 2014, 10:58:13 AM »
Got an email this morning from Farm Links in Seylacauga AL this morning promoting their new lower afternoon rates.  But there was another promo I found interesting.  An additional $10 off for people who wear sneakers instead of golf shoes.

Is this new, or have you guys heard of similar offers? It can't be to promote walking, as I think the course would fall squarely in the unwalkable category.

It's a good course, and probably the best conditioned course I've ever played...which means most here would hate it.

Dale,

Count me as a big fan of the course, very enjoyable place. I hope to get back sometime.  Interesting promo, curious to hear if this is happening anywhere else.

Hope all is well,

Mark

Amazing.  Someone is going to slip on a slope where they would have been safe wearing golf shoes.  Law suit city.

We had a foursome here the weekend before the Masters. Golf course was wet after a bunch of rain, but I enjoyed the place.

There are a bunch of good holes and the overall setup is great. Great cabins, great food, etc.

I think we're going back in '15.

Isn't Farm Links the course that is used for agronomy and turfgrass research?  My guess is the sneaker promo is tied into a research study.  Regardless, I can't see it catching on in most places.
New for '24: Monifieth x2, Montrose x2, Panmure, Carnoustie x3, Scotscraig, Kingsbarns, Elie, Dumbarnie, Lundin, Belvedere, The Loop x2, Forest Dunes, Arcadia Bluffs x2, Kapalua Plantation, Windsong Farm, Minikahda...

Bizarre promotion.  Perhaps it's being used to show how golf can be more casual?  Or maybe as a way of getting new people into the game that wouldn't necessarily have golf shoes yet and can make the course more affordable?

Brian,

Yes, Farm Links does agronomy and turfgrass research.  I know on some holes they have markers showing what types of grass were being used in different spots.  And I believe they may do superintendent conferences there as well.  Like I said, the 3 or 4 times I've been there it is immaculately groomed.  I'm thinking that is why the promotion might be running as well.

I really like the course; there are a lot of really good holes there.  I wish the par 3s were a bit more interesting.  Never stayed on-site, but always felt very welcomed there.  Certainly the only course where I ever witnessed people getting baptized.
