Keiser chooses Jim Engh for second course at Sand Valley
« on: April 01, 2014, 04:37:32 PM »
Just saw this on Matt Ginella twitter feed.  Follow the link "link was removed, because this is obviously April Fool's Joke"

Keiser is quoted in the article as saying "I wanted a course that would be juxtapose to the natural environment" he continued "the minimalist movement is still strong, but once you've played one minimalist course, you've played them all."

Interesting....

Didn't see Geoff's blog, but figure I wouldn't be they only one. I was looking at the title before I posted and thinking something looks wrong. Promise to post more informative stuff tomorrow.

A major greeting card company introduced today its new "Golfer's Collection", aimed at that special golfer in your life. Their first ever card features a full colour portrait of one of the world's greatest golf courses, and includes a message:

"Minimalism means never having to say you're sorry".

As a big fan of Tullymore, minus the condos and houses, I'm excited to hear this news.

I was in that area visiting someone at the Tomah Vets Home, which is near the new Keiser project Monday, 31st.  (so no April Fools joke).  It was the first real sign of spring with 62* temperatures, so I took a detour to do a 'drive-by' of the project land site.  I saw no staging or evidence of equipment being brought in yet.  The last time I looked for the property, I missed the intersection by a mile or so east of the actual  project site, and wasn't too enthused.  As noted earlier, the land changes in elevation frequency of rolls and this site looks really golfy.  Someone did go out on ATV trails and posted photos of land you can't see from the road, among the hillocks and hollows more away from the roads.  I suspect once they get to grubbing and clearing the pine scrub and exposing the sandy hilly terrain, the irrigation and then seeding/mulching may go rapidly.  I wouldn't be surprised if this has a soft opening by late summer/Fall 2015, if they get going soon this spring.

I suspect the land real estate rush is now on.  There really isn't much on the boundaries of this property except that which lies on the Pentwell Lake just a mile and a half west of the site.  But, the land around Lake Arrowhead Golf Course (Jeff Brauer's design) only minutes north of this land, is well developed.

i guess with a full service lodge like Bandon Resorts as a focal point on this property, this may make the project attractive to those that would do a multiple day stay to play.  The drive to the property up hyw 13 or from the county roads to the location is sort of bleak and doesn't tend to build great expectation via the "journey" to the property, like Bandon or Sand Hill courses do.
No actual golf rounds were ruined or delayed, nor golf rules broken, in the taking of any photographs that may be displayed by the above forum user.

Joe,

You forgot to mention that Art Hills, Rees Jones, Bob Lohman and Perry Dye are lined up for #'s 3-6!  I actually did a double take on this and my heart skipped a beat.  Getting old sucks...

RJ:

You're a bit optimistic about the schedule here.  I don't think there is any plan to do any shaping until this fall at the earliest, because a lot of Bill's crew is up in Canada working on another project, for the same client.  You wouldn't be having a "soft opening" of any holes in 2015 that weren't PLANTED by this fall.  So you're probably a year off in your estimate.
