Courses with Great Bridges

The pictures of the new bridge at Dismal in Eric's thread got me thinking about golf courses with great bridges. A little bit silly, but there are some great ones. The Swilken Bridge and the bridges at Augusta are given for their history. My favorite is the Swinging Bridge connecting the tenth tee to the green at Bel-Air. What are some others?

I'm on my iPad so have no idea how to post photos, but if you go to www.brocket-hall.co.uk and click on "Golf Courses," you'll see the lovely arched bridge that you cross from the 2nd tee to 2nd green, 4th fairway to 4th green, and 16th fairway to 16th green.  There''s also a ferry you use to cross the river twice.  This is on the Brocket Hall course designed by Peter Allis, just north west of London.

There is a really neat walkers suspension bridge on the back nine at Rock Creek Cattle Company.

I really like the one from 4 tee to 4 fairway at White Bear Yacht Club (that's the green of the wonderful little par-3 3rd, in the first picture):

The bridge over the Vale of Tempe at the Hanover Country Club connects the sixth tee to the 6th fairway (above); coming from the other direction, it connects the 18th tee to the 18th fairway. Looks benign in this photo...



...but as you can see, the Vale is rather deep. That's a public running path underneath:

The walk back to 14 tee over the creek at Blythefield CC in Grand Rapids is pretty cool.

Sorry, no picture, but Rolling Green has a doozy that takes you from 14th tee to green. Nice old steel truss work. Made me nervous as I traversed it's length.
By the way, the hole is a really neat reverse Redan style. Very treacherous trying to work the ball back down the green to a front hole location if you overcook your approach.

Kauri Cliffs has a fine collection.

If my memory is correct, they are on holes 6,9,10,11,12 and 18.

The 11th hole at Essex County in NJ is a great par 3 203 yards over a ravine. The is a walk bridge that goes over the ravine thru the trees.

they altered the course at Ohio University after we left, so I haven't played the new holes that cross the Hocking River. Bridge must be nice, though.

I can just see the "Animal House" boys at Dartmouth, having stolen a cart, racing down that hill ... and, oh NOOOOOOOOOOO!

I need to get some pics but Mississaugua CC outside Toronto has 4 pretty substantial bridges plus an elevator that takes you from the 15th green to 16th tee (and a 6 sheet curling rink, for good measure).

Interesting that you should make that connection. I'm in the middle of writing a piece for the Dartmouth Alumni Magazine on Hanover Country Club, and it doesn't have much to do with golf. It's mostly about all the other things that have happened on that course over the years -- including the (perhaps apocryphal, but universally believed) story of the drunken frat boy who went down the old ski jump (above the 13th green) in a baby carriage.

If there are any other Dartmouth alums reading this, and have a Hanover Country Club golf course story they wish to share for my piece, IM me.

Ellerston has many, and they are grand in scale. Most could easily accommodate large vehicle traffic, as they connect one segment of the property, essentially a farm, to others as they span Pages Creek.
