Chicago GCA get together dinner??
« on: February 26, 2014, 09:37:18 PM »
Would there be interest this year in getting together for dinner at the Erie Cafe?  I'd be happy to try to put something together.  Please let me know if you are interested.  I think a Wednesday or Thursday within the next three or four weeks would be ideal.

I agree. Let's try Thursday March 20.  Shelly Solow may be able to arrange a speaker. If not, maybe we could have representatives of various private clubs detail the membership opportunities available.

If I can get at least 8 confirmed for Thursday March 20, I will call Erie Cafe and make us a reservation.

Steve,

I'm certainly interested, but can't confirm quite yet. I'll follow up with you...

In.  I checked on Revolution Brewery as an alternative venue na they require a minimum of 50 guests to book a private room.

That's the first Thursday of the NCAA tournament.  If that date is going to stand, I suggest that it is scheduled at a location with ample televisions.

BlackFinn would work for that purpose but it would nix the speaker. Maybe Wednesday the 19th would work better???

It's funny, from the ages 10-14 I always would have a strange two day bug that would keep me home from school on that same Thurs/Fri...weird.

Matt -

I still have that same sickness as a grown man.

Ironic that Chicagoans are concerned about the NCAA tournament when no school in the state is going to sniff the Big Dance.

The 19th would probably work better for me.

I would be interested in meeting for dinner but don't think I can make the week of March 20th.  Will be in Vegas for the NCAA tourney.  The week before would be a lot better.

Don't be so sure.  If the Illini win the rest of their games and don't lose them like I expect, they're in the dance.

Aren't the play-in games on Wednesday the 19th?  We can't miss those.

Am interested in attending but i will not know until March 16th.
Reason is simple: on 3/20, i hope to be at the United Center watching my son's hockey team compete in the (AHAI) IL high school state hockey finals. The semis are on 3/16 and I do hope they also get to play in that game.

I can't think of any reason why I wouldn't be able to make it.  Consider me in for now.

In the face of this weather, any thoughts or discussions about golf are welcomed. I would like to attend.

I would also prefer a date prior to Thursday of that week, even if it conflicts with the play-in games.

I was kidding.  Like 99.9% of the public, I couldn't give two shits about the play-in games.

Not sure when my Tourney Calcutta is but how about having it here instead?  Best pizza in town since Great Lake closed and they have a private room:

I can make 19th or 20th work.

Apologies for not following through on the planning, per the other thread.  I've been too distraught over the Hoosiers' horrible season.

Ryan - I knew you weren't serious. Neither was I. Tournament's kickoff will always be Thursday morning.

That said, I would give two shits if the Blue Demons made some kind of miracle run through the Big East into a play-in game.
