The Postage Stamp.

And I still want to know about that abandoned tee.

Fascinating - in conceptual terms, in the specifics, and in its implications for all future gca-related discourse; and all the more so because JK cares not a whit about either the first or last elements, just the specifics, which makes both the concept and the depth "accidental".

Kind of like shooting dice with Big Julie in Guys and Dolls.

18 at The Old Course?

Not for me but from what I hear you could drive it.  That is a fine guess but wrong.  Actually a three putt par almost enhances the story.

No.  All I know about the abandoned tee is that back in the day when trips to Sand Hills were more than just another stop on a great trip posters would climb to the back tee and wax poetic.  I never understood why it was abandoned.  Even I glanced its way and wondered why.

Very close but does anyone really want the extended version of a story about golfing in Florida?

I was thinking the 16th at Cypress. You just know that if you start bragging about how you hit the green some schmuck is going to ask how many just hoping that you screwed it up.

David,

You already disqualified me from hosting that match when you requested an objective reviewer, ie: someone who hates Dismal.

Someone who hates Dismal? How could anyone hate a Doak course in the Sand Hills?  Here is what you said in response to Keith above: "It was a shot at the people who think it is a great hole.  It is a fine hole on a great course."

Similarly, my comment on the other thread had absolutely nothing to do with the quality of the course. I have little doubt Dismal Red is a great course. I am just disappointed that with the owner, architect, and the likes of you and others policing the conversation, we'll likely never even get to anything resembling a frank discussion about the architecture.

Sorry to thread-jack, but you are wrong in your comment above.

Enjoy your game.

Gents, as one of the posters who quickly guessed right (the 10th at Riviera, as you may recall) let me offer a word of unsolicited advice: don't suggest any golf hole from any country other that the good old United States of America. Remember: Charlie don't surf!!

Not just Dismal.  I am now no longer allowed to discuss Ballyneal, Sand Hills or The Prairie Club because of my love for Dismal.  Same would go for any new course built in the USA for the past three or next three years.  No matter what opinion I have it is twisted.  Honestly, frank discussion is a myth.

I got me a passport and left the country for the first time in my life this past Christmas.  I like it out there but don't see cause to golf given the beautiful women, great food and cheap wine.

The fifth hole got lost in same ole, same ole.  A clue:  Troubled waters refers to a snow covered highway.  Oh, and I don't read posts by people with fake names so if they make a guess that is correct I may not acknowledge.  Yes I see the names, that is how I know not to read the post.

My dear old Dad told me his story of playing Cypress Point sometime in the late fifties or early sixties, and hitting driver on #16 about 15 feet long, and then three putting for bogey.
