Re: Paying dues while your course is being renovated?

Rather than listing courses as you always demand I was wandering what percentage of US top 100 courses are in areas of extreme 100 degree heat?

to answer your question, just about every course in South Florida, like Seminole, Pine Tree, Streamsong Blue, Streamsong Red, Mountain Lake, Boca Rio,, etc..etc.

You could throw in courses in Texas, Arizona, Nevada, parts of Southern Cal, Alabama, Mississippi and Georgia as well.
High temperatures of 100 are not unique in the summer.
Even New Jersey gets 100 temperatures every now and then.
You have heard of Pine Valley and Merion, yes ?

Mark, you M-word, as Pat explained, all of the US top 100 clubs in South Florida, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia (excluding that course that is closed during the summer) Texas, Arizona and Nevada experience 100+ temps.   Think of how many US Top 100 courses are in those states...there must be a few, maybe even "several".

I guess it gets warm in Pacific Palisades...the record high is 104 and the average high is in the low 70s, so Riviera in Southern Cal is not immune to these pressures.

But...Merion is in New Jersey?  :D

Kevin,

Since the guys in Philly try to co-opt and claim Pine Valley, I thought it appropriate to annex Merion.

In the Chicago area we only rarely reach 100.  However we frequently have periods which last up to a week where the temperatures reach well into the 90's, usually with high humidity.  Perhaps even more importantly, the night time temperatures remain quite high.  These are the times when courses lose greens that have a lot of poa.  Of course now we are experiencing winter weather where the high next weak is predicted to be about 6 below with significant wind chills.  So I guess we qualify as having weather extremes.  At least we have some snow cover to help protect the grass.

Hottest day on the course ever was at Chicago Golf low 90s, zero wind and high humidity most uncomfortable for Brits. Very interesting discussion over lunch on the lack of clubhouse air con. They called an engineer but he asked if they were serious, the club replied of course they were but the engineer wasn't convinced as he'd priced the job up twice in the previous 20 years. I believe they still don't have it.
